So does it seem sensible to be coming off my gliclazide? My GP seems to think so. I am a little nervous about it. I have lost a lot of weight and I think it is from the gliclazide. Now he says my blood sugars are great and I can come off the gliclazide now. But I am not so sure that is a good idea. It is helping me and now he wants me off of it? It doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone else been on glicazide at all and if so, are you still on it or has the doctor made you come off of it too? I would like to stay on it but he says no, I don't need it. I think I do. I need help here. Thank you!

It sounds like that since you lost weight, you have better blood sugar control now. This is probably why your doctor wants to take you off of the gliclazide. This is a good thing that you are able to go off your medication. If you maintain your weight and stay with your diet and exercise regimen, you will be able to stay off medication for a long time after. You shouldn’t be afraid of going off the medication because this means that your body is able to regulate its insulin on its own. You should be delighted as this is every diabetics wish. I am pretty sure that you can keep your diabetes reversed by keeping your weight off. Obesity is one of the main things that tend to cause insulin resistance in diabetics. You are having better insulin resistance by losing your excess weight. If you keep the weight off, you will not need to have medicine for a long time. Congratulations on reversing your diabetes!
