Hi, I have been suffering from depression for a long time. The drug that has helped me come out of this state is remeron. I now feel ok, except for the weight I have put on. Because of this I have been thinking about coming off remeron. I would like to do this as safely as possible. Do you have some advice about how I can achieve this?
Hi, first of all I would like to say I am glad you managed to deal with your depression. Remeron is a very serious drug and its use should always be under doctors supervision. Also, you shouldnt try to quit using remeron without your doctors approval. I can understand that now because you feel ok, you feel you should stop using remeron. However, I must advise you not to do anything on your own. As I said, remeron is a serious antidepressant and if you stop taking it without your doctors awareness, you might end up feeling even worse than before you started using the medicine. The few extra pounds that are bothering you now may seem the least of your problems if you go off remeron cold turkey. The best way to stop using any medication is to do it by gradually lowering the dosage of the drug. This way you are giving your body a chance to slowly adapt to new situation. However, the tempo of this process should also be determined by a doctor, since every drug has its own mechanism of elimination. Once again, my best advice is that you should talk to the doctor who prescribed you with remeron in the first place. This is the only person that could help you with your intentions.
