To the posters waiting to go in for surgery....

I had my gall-bladder removed by keyhole surgery just under a year ago. I had been in agony for a year (i'm sure you know this!), so it was a relief to get it out! Don't read the horror stories, I did and scared myself silly :'(

I was in and out of hospital in 2 days, the worst part was having the drain out...but it only takes a few minutes and then it's over with. You'll be sore for a couple of weeks but if any of you have had children...it's not nearly as bad as that! I was lucky, I had no residual pain anywhere from the gas and apart from discomfort from the drain it wasn't too bad at all. (compared to the pain of a gall bladder attack it's nothing!)

A year on and i'm fine. Can pretty much eat what I want although I agree, too much fat has me running for the nearest toilet...good for your waistline! I'm a 35yr old mum of two and a normal weight. Hope it helps :-D

Hi, I had my gallbladder removed last Friday and all is going well so far. The pain after the op is nothing to the two years of hell of having the gallbladder attacks and despite feeling sore I feel great. Although I do feel tired and have a little trouble catching my breath but my chest is feeling stronger everyday.  I'm eating okay on a low fat diet still, as I did before the op and I have had no adverse effects - no diarrhea or heartburn. Even though I feel sad that I had to have this operation and I fought to keep my gallbladder but I am now just relieved that it's out. THANK GOODNESS!

For people who have been told they have gallstones and need surgery, please don't read all the negative reviews on most forums. I know that everyone will experience different symptoms and effects before and after surgery but when I was told I had gallstones I googled and read about all the scare stories and I felt that I couldn't go through with the operation and I cancelled the operation. THIS DECISION COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL!  I was determined to keep my gallbladder, put up with the pain and just hope that the time bomb ticking away inside me wouldn't explode. But then a friend of mine after one attack was rushed to hospital and he only had one gallstone which had disintegrated and only a layer of fat kept his gallbladder together and  if it had leaked, he would have died. That got me thinking and I knew I had to face the music and go ahead with the operation. I was terrified of having the gallbladder out, considering everything I read, and worried about diarrhea which I suffered before with my gallbladder but as yet, my bowels feel normal and they have only moved twice in five days which is quite a welcome change for me. I feel that I am going to be alright and  I don't regret it so far. I know it's early days and I don't know how my body is going to react to fattening foods but I'm in no hurry to find out and I have no intention on eating all the unhealthy foods which caused me to have gallstones in the first place and to be fat.  Just to add, my friend has made a full and positive recovery.

I had my gallbladder removed two weeks ago, my gallbladder was inflamed so it was emergency surgery. Right after I was sore, with a bad sore throat. I was sent home 14 hours later, after they made sure I could eat and use the bathroom. I was sore for the first week and tired , very very tired. The nurse taught me some deep breathing exercises after the surgery it helped with the pain and the pain from the gas. I suggest as soon as possible sitting up right slightly hunched over with a pillow in front of you . It helps alot
