I have posted on the GI forum, have had surgery to remove gB and a liver mass which was benign. It took a long time to diagnose my right upper quadrant pain and this year I have had 4 CT scans, 3 or 4 chest Xrays(also have lung nodules they are watching), HIDA scan for gall bladder(I dont' know about radiation for that). The radiologist recommends more tests in 4 months to watch lung nodules, local pulmonalogist(sp?)recommends another CXR in 6 months. There is history of leukemia in my family and these continued xrays concern me but I don't feel I can refuse them. Which is worst--regular CXR or CT? The CTs use IV contrast as well as oral barium.
Thanks for any info.

I am sorry you have to go through all these tests. I think these x-ray scans are necessary for an accurate diagnosis. The risk of radiation damage is small compared to the consequence of not trying to find out what is wrong with you.

Thanks for the reply hoseclamps. I agree and am all for using all diganostic tools available, certainly my mindset is the "medical" model as I am an RN. I am just curious which tests use more radiation, I have been reading about cumulative effects over one's lifetime. I even stopped dental xrays for awhile, but started them again a few years ago. I have had a LOT of tests this year and will need more xrays to watch lungs. I know I am lucky to have insurance and am able to have these tests at my disposal.

Did you decide what procedure you're going to be having done in the coming months? I'd like to hear how you're doing if that's okay. Thanks!
