I am taking cortisone shots for my arthritic pain in the arm. I am having problem with the shoulder. I cant lift my arm over the shoulder. Cortisone is really helping. But when I got a fly few days ago I went to a doctor and he said that I probably got it because my immune system is suppressed by Cortisone. Does it really have influence on my immune system?
Yes it does. It is, like other corticosteroids, immunosuppressant. It acts by suppressing our immune system and preventing inflammation in our body. Corticosteroids are used in therapy after the organ transplantation. But I am not sure is it possible to affect that much to your immune system to make you get fly.
My doctor didn't even believe it when I called his office after a cortizone shot and told him I had oral thrush. He had never heard of it, which is disappointing that the dr. wouldn't even know that this could be a side effect. Two days after the cortizone shot, my mouth was totally filled with oral thrush. Then, as a result of the immune system response, I started getting pre cancerous lesions all over my arms, chest, face, one of them was so big I had to have it cut out and get 9 stitches. All the sun I was exposed to for a few weeks after the shot caused the pre skin cancer since my immune system was shut down. Then my hair started falling out by the handfuls, after 4 months that stopped. I thought I was dying! Now my teeth are totally ruined, they have started just dissolving, breaking if I take a bite of food, and all my teeth are just little broken pieces of teeth. Before this my teeth were just about perfect. Nobody seems to have the answers, but I know that it is all from the cortisone shots that I had because it all started with that. I would never take another one again unless it was life or death. Has anybody else had this severe of symptoms?? Does anybody know any place I can get help with my teeth at low cost?? I am just in tears!!! I am 55 years of age. Thanks, Terri
