I had just one cortisone shot 2 months ago and have been suffering from extreme cramping of feet and legs. Like others here, sore in the morning where it cramped..sore to move, sore to touch. My dermatologist said he never heard of this. I told him to google it.
Nothing has helped me yet--not magnesium, not quinine drink, not stretching, not keeping the legs warm, not apple cider vinegar or pickle juice or anything I can find on the net. I took a little Valium today and even that did not help.
It is a nightmare and someone needs to start a class action suit. We should all be reporting this to the FDA. Am going to google FDA report side effects and see what I get.
Will try potassium next and have ordered some leg cramp pills from Amazon. Also going to ask the doc exactly the name of the medication and the dosage of the shot.
The pain is horrendous....like a labor pain in your leg--and the lack of sleep is wearing me down.
Try it. They are amazing!!!
PS. Doctors don't have an answer for me either
thank you so much for the reply now i don't feel so bad because i amsure it is the cortizone i never had leg cramps or finger spasims before and i have them now after a cortizone shot in my thumb before
I had a shot in my lower back in August and started getting cramps in my calves about 5 days after. When I told my doctor about the cramps, he said that, yes, it was a side effect of the shot and should last no more than 3 weeks. His suggestion was to drink OJ two to three times a day and to take a muscle relaxant (I already had them prescribed by my doctor). After about the third week, they were gone.
Just about a week ago, I got two shots in my joints for arthritis, and I again have cramping only worse this time because it isn't relegated to my calves. Any muscle I move will cramp...arms, wrists, feet, calves, back, ribs...You name it, it cramps. I can get them to calm down some with the muscle relaxers, but when that wears off, boy, do I know it.
I am currently waiting for a call to see if there is anything else that I can do to help ease the pain and the cramping.
i had a shot 3weeks ago and have been having cramps in almost every muscle in my body. I've been getting shots for wo years and the cramps have gotten worse. Not sure if the shots cause it but it mighty strange i never had them before.
I started experiencing severe lower leg cramps about three weeks after a cortisone shot to treat Morton's neuroma. Last night a had an upper leg cramp squarely between my knee and groin. Doubling over in pain. I wake up feeling it coming and cannot do anything to stop it once it starts. Off for potassium tomorrow because this is in bearable.
I have had the same problem with leg cramps after a cortisone shot in my knee.
I had a second shot in my neck for the severe arthritis I have. The first one was four months ago. It helped a lot but not completely. I went back August 2 for another shot and a few days later I started have pain in my lower back. I went and had blood tested for urine, kidneys, liver and bladder checked, but they came back negative. Now my entire back hurts so bad. Because it happened after the cortisone shot, that is the only thing I can relate it too. I haven't lifted anything or done anything to my back to cause this.
I had a shot in my tailbone almost two weeks to the day and have been experiencing debiltating cramps in my feet, ankles, calves and buttocks. It's worse on the days that I exercize my legs and buttocks. I'm also expieriencing nightmares and some insomnia. It seemed to have a diruetic effect because I lost 3lbs several days after the shot and my face looks a little gaunt. since I have not changed my eating habbits I'm going to assume this is water weight. I'm going to try taking calcium, potassium and magnesium and I've ordered some magnesium spray. I will also up my salt and water intake. What helps in the short term is HOT water, take a hot shower - as hot as you can stand it or run hot water over the affected area. A heating pad is not the same thing. Once I run hot water over my feet and calves the cramps subside. Watch the magnesium - take too much an you won't get off the toilet. I would think that a bath in epson salts would also help. Unfortunately all I have is a shower but I'm going to try soaking my feet in it before bed. If some or any of this works I will post the results. My heart goes out to anyone that is experiencing this. It's frustrating and disheartening when you try and do something to help yourself and all you get is more misery.
This sounds exactly like what I"M dealing with.......UNBEARABLE pain, it's like my foot and leg is STROKING out!!! I have no control like the limb is not mine!!!
