Try soaking in a hot tub with epson salt before you go to bed - put about two cups in and stay in the tub for an hour. Drink a lot of water during the day and orange juice if you have any. This helped me a lot. It went from unbearable pain to a minor iritation. The epson salt actually made me feel drowsy. If you can get your hands on Xanax that will help with sleep - I took it for two nights. I think the epson salt bath helped the cramps the most. It's starting to get better - the worse part lasted about a week. I even had some foot cramps during the day! Hopefully it will start getting better for you soon.

I had a cortisone shot on Oct. 7, 2013.  It took awhile, but on Oct. 19 I woke up with very painful and severe leg cramps which continued for the next four nights and involved both my legs in the calves and ankles.  I read people's suggestions for this on the internet (I didn't even know cortisone could cause this) and decided to try a muscle relaxer since my husband already had it for his back pain.  Specifically, I took Carisoprodol 350 mg. -- one tablet at bedtime.  It worked, and I couldn't be happier!

The only thing I have found, and I have severe cramping (just started up again after cortisone injection in knee), is to freeze the lower/tail bone area of the spine. Once it reaches the almost frozen state, I can feel the cramp subsiding. A couple of nights, I have had to fall asleep with an ice pack on my spine. Hope this helps.

I had three cortistone injections for my back over a few months time and I also got leg and foot cramps. My doctor who gave me the shots told me they were from the injections and he gave me a prescription for klonopin (0.5) and it does help.

I had a cortisone shot in my left heel last Friday for an injured Plantar ligament. Monday AM I had the mother of all leg cramps in my calf, and that's saying a lot because I have had leg cramps off and on my entire life. I was late jumping out of bed to stop it, so it hurt like the devil for a long time. BTW, if you get a leg cramp, and you get out of bed and straighten your leg standing flat footed on the floor, you can stop it in it's tracks. Straighten ing your leg against the foot of the bed will do the same thing. I had a steroid epidural a few years ago for radicular back pain, and the next day I ended up in the ER walking like Fred Sanford, all the muscles in my arms and legs were cramping up. The ER was clueless, my intern said he couldn't imagine the symptoms were related to the epidural. I went in for the second epidural, but reported the symptoms to the anestheologist. He refused to give me a second epidural stating "We don't want to kill your kidneys". I agreed "Killing my kidneys would be bad, wouldn't it?". I have never had kidney problems. There is something about steroids that they aren't telling us. I don't like them, and they don't like me.

I just had a cortisone shot in my left foot for a neuroma 2 days ago (wow, that was painful, and I'm pretty tough about pain!), and had leg aches all that night. I thought about taking some magnesium, but was too tired to go downstairs, so I took the ice pack I was using on my head (had a headache and that helps me sleep) and put it on my knees. Today I've had a really sore calf muscle, like I did a lot of calf raises on just the left leg. Id been poking around on google all day to see if anyone else experienced anything similar, and was glad to find these posts - I thought I was just being a weirdo, but my boyfriend just told me he had muscle aches after a cortisone shot in his knee, too.

I had a shot in the pad of my foot under my second (longer toed) because of severe pain after bunion surgery. The doctor didn't cut down my second toes and a lot of pressure was on that toe when walking. After the injection of cortisone into the pad of foot under that toe, my toe contracted into a hammer toe. After about ten years I went back into foot surgery for the hammer toe caused by the steroid injection.

I had two steroid injections for a skin irritation and have had severe cramps in my feet and legs. Last night I woke up with such intense cramps and I tried pulling my foot straight (which usually helps with normal leg cramps) and then having to walk on it to stretch out the cramp. I could barely walk and hobbled around the house. My ankle was hurting really bad with the cramp and it was causing me to not being able to walk. Every time I came back to bed and laid my legs straight, the cramp came back. I was up most of the night since about 2:30. My legs hurt like a bruise today. My doctor told me that I might experience cramping, but I thought it might be cramping like I am use to which is very light and manageable.

I know exactly how you feel. I had cordisone injections over 2 years ago. The first one i had very lilltle relief. I had the second one 2weeks later. That night was unreal. The leg , calf and foot cramps was so bad. I could see the cramp in my calf. I tried to stand both my legs went num. lucky my teenage daughter was home i had to get her to call the ambulance. Once i was at the hospital they started a IV with different medications. The CRAMPING creeps up on you when your trying to sleep. It is so unbearable. I need a cordisone shop now and have refused to get it. I will ask is there something that they can give me so that i won't experience that pain again. I',m glad i am not the only one that has experienced this. My Doctor looked at me like i was crazy. When i told him about the side effects. I will say this ! That second cordisone injection really helping for almost two years

I had a cortizone shot in my foot for a ganglyne cyst on the bone the next day and three days later my face is beet red, then I started to have these awful leg and feet cramps. Starts at the foot travels up both sides of the legs to the hip, the pain is unbelievable plus when I get up my legs will not move and the pain if it lasted ........well take me out back and shoot me, no kidding I have never ever felt cramps like this lasting about 5 minutes at a time. Told the ER doc his reply never heard of steriods doing this and I think it is bull they all say that but I am healty, walk every day for an hour, drink water not taking any new meds or any new changes so it has to be the steriod. My thinking is ...why won't the doc admit steriods do this to some people!!!

I had cortisone injection in my shoulder about five weeks ago, and two days later severe calf cramps started. I still have them two or three times a night. I wonder how long it takes for the cortisone to leave the body. Does anyone know?

I had a cortosone shot in my right knee 3 weeks, 2 days ago had haven't slept since.  The cramps are so severe I called my ortho and was given a script of Valium which didn't help.  I called the ortho again and the nurse thought maybe I should have an MRI to rule out a blood clot and would check with the dr.  I told her I went on line and researched what might help leg cramps and would go to the health store to pick up some magnesium oil.  She later called and said she spoke with the dr and he said to try the magnesium oil first.  Well I did and didn't have any cramps last night!!  One night down so far but during the day my calf is so sore from the prior cramping from the last 3 weeks.  Oh, and the ortho doesn't admit this thus as a side affect!!  Hm
