I just had shot in my hips a week ago, I woke up screaming in agony as the spasm in my calf was unbelievable. This is the 3rd time of getting these spasms right after getting the shots. Does anyone know how I can avoid these? Water, bananas aren't helping.

I have had five cortisone shots in my left heel for Plantar Facitis (sp) heel spur. This was since last March and finally had to have the operation to remove it. YES, I had horrible leg cramps and calf cramps while watching TV in my recliner. I started taking potassium and Magnesium with Zinc to balance things out. It helped a lot. Now I have had two in the left foot for arthritis, one in the left knee and one in the left shoulder with physical therapy. Yes, the pains have gone away, but have severe cramps in shins, calf, legs, forearms, fingers lock up too. I now have a crick in my neck for three days. Just woke up with it. Took two teaspoons of yellow mustard (French's) for last leg cramp and applied heating pad. Seemed to help took two potassium before bed that night. Doctor's are either ignorant or refuse to acknowledge the problem. Good luck to all out there.

Potassium pills are only 3% of your daily requirement. So several of these will help. You would have to eat a stalk of bananas to equal one pill. lol Yes plenty of liquids, I also take a Calcium and magnesium gel tab. be careful with the Magnesium it will send you to the toilet. lol Check your other meds so you don't take too much potassium either. Some advise apple cider vinegar or mustard at time of the cramp also, google it.

After an epidural injection one week ago, the foot, leg, and abdomen cramps were so horrific, I had to go to hospital. I couldn't walk and couldn't release the cramp. Has anyone had similar problems? My family physician thinks I am overreacting and instead thinks I'm having withdrawals from pain meds. tampa Florida

Yes big time! I am 58 years old and have been through many steroid injections. At first it didn't make sense to me what was causing my cramps, in my stomach rib cage, in my legs. I finally lost my leg to a staff infection. Didn't have any shots for another six years. But I blew my good leg out, hopping on it, and using crutches. Started having shots in my knee years later. And sure enough on my cramps came back! When I brought it up to the doctors at Kaiser they were surprised, saying they hadn't heard of it before. Then I went online and found people like us. The only drug That can possibly help his muscle relaxers by prescription. And even with those it doesn't help a whole lot. I know it sounds strange but chug a can or bottle of tonic water as soon as it starts. I don't know if it's in my head or not but it seems to help. Good luck because only a few people know what you're going through. May god bless you

That's the spot that's really getting me since I got a shot! Had calf one's before, but never there. Last night was left calf, while right thigh and ankle area at the same time.

It is surprising how many doctors do not understand the correlation between these injections and muscle spasms and cramping. I have had this happen every time I get steroid shots in my knees. I have had it happen too many times for it to be a coincidence.

I finally went to an orthopedic doctor that told me that that was a side effect for a lot of people when they have these injections. It is one of the more rare side effects. But it is a side effect from the injections.

I had a cortisone shot in the left knee just over a month ago, and nearly every night, right at bed time, my feet/angles/shins start cramping up. I've always had some calf cramps but nothing as strong, as painful, as what I've been experiencing. I did just try doing a bunch of runners stretches a half hour before getting ready for bed, and it has stopped it twice now. Amazing to know I'm not alone!

My sister and I have the same issue from cortisone shots. Severe cramps in the legs or legs in the middle of the night. My big toe goes straight up and the muscles twist in my leg. My sister says she bought something called leg cramps and Walgreens and she swears by it. So far I have used muscle relaxers heating pads and massage. Next I'll try what she uses.

Eat a tablespoon of yellow mustard, will stop them. Takes about a min after you take it for the cramp to stop. I take it before bed and helps

I agree with you on the curse. I had injections and the next day every muscle in my body was cramping. My arms were pulling themselves around the front of my chest and my hips and legs were pulling away from my body. I can't explain the pain. I was incapacitated for three days. My hands feet legs everything in my body was cramping and still is somewhat. Told my pm dr. And she says there's no way the shots caused that and scheduled me for more shots in a week. This is hell.

I have been up walking around for the last hour. It happened Thursday to both calves one right after the other. I had a shot in my bursa a week before that. It's trying to do it again. It's terrible. I recognized it before it got aggressive this time. But as soon as I lay down I feel like it will cramp.
