Thanks because I had a cortisone injection also one week ago and have suffered the most excruciating leg cramps ever, I mean have occasionally had cramps but these ones make me scream in agony. How long will they last? Got to the point of being scared to sleep

Drink plenty of water before going to bed helped me. Before I realized that, I used a really cold ice pack, which would help breakdown the cramp while in process. Hope this helps.

I've been having severe foot and leg cramps and just realized that the only thing I recently changed was the steroid injections I had in my back. I purchased a homeopathic quinine product that helps and Powerade as well, but I'm looking for a solution that eliminates them before they start. Magnesium and Potassium are being recommended, hope it helps.

I can't see. To get the time frame question answered from other people suffering with this but I'm at 3 1/2 months now. It's not as bad as it was at first but I'm up at least 3 times each night.

I had meniscus surgery, very minor. Not sure why they thought it was the issue as I stepped off a small drop off to a pop so loud I heard and for sure felt a terrible pain in back of my knee up into my thigh. A MRI showed a 20% tear in the non blood receiving part of my meniscus and a 4mm bakers cyst. Occurred 12/3/16. No surgery until 2/17/17. 15 min surgery, no restrictions. Full weight bearing the next day. Oh, and we left the cyst?? Knee kept hurting. Two check ups. Only the PA. Use ice and elevate. What??? Finally I demanded to see the surgeon. He could not understand the swelling and the way my knee looked. How about some steroid shots. We have good luck relieving pain. Great! First I turned into a person I've never known. Mean, cranky, yelling at my wife of 31 years which I'd never done. After about 8 days the insanity subsided. I felt okay but the pain and swelling were still there.
Out of no where came cramps I'd never felt in my life. Turning over in bed, moving either leg just to scratch. Cramps so bad I could see the muscles knot up. Then my calves, hands, fingers, toes, for arms would cramp for no reason. I started looking. I'd been drinking gator aid as I perspire a lot if outside. I thought, maybe that's it. Then I read Tetnus. Same symptoms but I had no cuts. Then liver. Of course the mind rages. Then I hit on, what about those dang steroids ( hand cramping as I'm typing). It's been 15 days since the injections. I saw this and my fears were relieved that it's probably not my liver or tetnus. It's STEROIDS! Why don't they advise us these things can occur. I've already been cursed with Levaquin and the tendon issues. Now this. I'm about to go to the NO MORE MEDS brigade. I'm angry. I see the surgeon next week. I may get thrown out of his office. Two reasons. My 3 days and back to normal is month 4 with no relief, possibly worse as it's weak. And how long will I have these God awful body cramps? Thank you all for posting, I may have gone thru who knows what kinds of tests. I think I'm just about done with medication. When the commercials are 30 seconds of how great they are then one minute of you may bleed to death internally, I think they may be not so great. Most minor illness in my life I let run it's course, maybe a couple days of amoxicillin and I'm back. After the Cipro and Levaquin for Sinus infections brought on from allergies, I'm damaged for life. I pray these cramps pass soon. The pain is nearly indescribable. Best to all that posted.

I had a cortisone shot into my ankle 6 months ago and had pretty sever twitching & cramp in my calves. I put it down to my injury. Recently I have had 2 jabs in my ankle and the spasms & cramps are REDICULOUS! After reading this and these recent cramps. I'm convinced it's the cortisone. As much as it helps, these cramps are causing trauma to my muscles leaving me in agony for up to a week after the cramp. No more jabs.

I'm using magnesium, taurine & bananas. These cramps are vicious! I have not once been warned about twitching & cramps when getting a jab. I regret having them now, as last time the twitching lasted 4-6 months. Now I have 2 in the ankle. I'm in for a ruff time I guess. Can feel it in my hands, arms, quads & chest cage too. Anyone with any remedies, please post.

I haven't thoroughly looked into this but I was trying to research the steroid injections and from what I've read they do not appear to be FDA approved? Does that seem correct? I do suggest that all of us that have had reactions due to these injections should report to the FDA so that there is more awareness.

The doctor told me, cortisone, steroids does not cause cramping!!! I totally know that's a lie.. we have to remember they are (practicing) physicians!!! Be well!!

I've had 3 rounds of Cortsone shot, in my hands for over 3 years. Every time the muscle craps get worse and I end up in surgery 6 months later (anyhow) for Carpal Tunnel or trigger finger. My last injection was two weeks ago and last night was the worst back pain I've ever had in my 45 years....Worse then labor pains.
I crawled out of bed and into my bathroom to get a muscle relaxer in order to sleep. I have a follow up appointment this week, I still have the trigger but I don't want any more injections. Surgery this time will be sooner then later.

I get nightly leg cramps after my every three months cortisone hip injection for bursitis. The cramps last for about 2 weeks and then subside. I've tried everything! Then found a product called Hylands Leg Cramps. I put 2 to 3 tablets under my tongue and within 1 to 3 minutes, the cramps are gone. It doesn't last a long time. I've had to use it 2 to 3 times per night. But at least I can go back to sleep quickly.

I had a knee injection 4 months ago and had a massive bruise and pains shooting up my leg to the groin. I couldn't lie or sit and slept leaning against a wall. The pains then went into my lower back and have now moved up to the back of my ribcage. The Dr said it was nothing to do with the injection but I had no problems before then. Does this pain ever stop.

I had the same horrible cramps in legs and feet every time i got an injection, started a few days after injection and lasted for up to 6 weeks as the injection medicine wears off. It's not normal muscle cramps either . I finally found a doctor who said it is a rare side effect from the injections.
