When I was14 years old I had pimple-like bump on my penis shaft. I went to the doctor and he said it was just dirt or a pimple, so I didn't think anything of it. I am 20 now. Another the explanation that I’ve got now is that some people have prominent hair follicles in that area and these are actually normal and no treatment is necessary. You can also develop cysts, which I believe I had back then. They are harmless, but can be cut out if the appearance bothers you. It can be tricky to determine what a skin irregularity actually is especially in the genital region. It is impossible to do over the Internet and that’s why it is really important that a physician examine the spot you are concerned about so that you know for sure what you are dealing with. The skin around the scrotum and penis shaft is naturally quite bumpy, so while the bump you describe may be one of many things.

If you have had no sexual contact then you do not have herpes.

There are all sorts of things that can cause penile swellings, almost all of them harmless. Right now, though, it is your anxiety that's doing you harm. I know that it would be scary or embarrassing for you to go to your doctor but trust me (I have have been a doctor for 20 years) it is a routine, everyday thing for us. Most people who come to a doctor are either anxious, embarrassed or both - our job is to relax and reassure you. I can't do that for you through the internet, so get down and talk to your own doctor - ten minutes and the anxiety's gone!
