U shouldn't take Tylenol in addition to pain med cuz that's way too much Tylenol which is toxic to the liver. The max dose of Tylenol for 24 hours is 4 grams!

I had my tonsils out Tuesday. It's Friday, so today is the third day since (not including the day of surgery). After reading horror stories, I have had almost no pain. I would say 1 or 2 / 10. I do take Tylenol every 4 hours and before bed I take the acetaminophen with codeine just to be safe. I have been able to eat just about any soft food from day 1. I hope pain doesn't increase in a few days. So far it's been no big deal.

You are lucky! I had mine out at 54 and it was a three week recovery. I had the same problems most people are describing. Now my 20 year old daughter had to have hers out and is on day 4. She's had horrible ear pain, but has been able to eat more than I could, I had vomiting, which caused dehydration and a short visit to the hospital after. My daughter has had the benefit of my experience and we quit the codine and moved to Tylenol and phenergan for the nausea. Most of these posts are average experiences, don't try to make people think it's going to be easy. It stinks, it's awful, but you tell yourself that you will allow yourself to feel horrible for 3 weeks in exchange for a lifetime of feeling better and you can get through.

I'm on the 5th day of recovery if you count the day of surgery as the 1st. I'm a 21 year old male and I will say it has been very easy going. the first night was absolutely terrible however, apparently the aniestsia makes me nascious and mixing that on top of blood drained from surgery was not a good mix needless to say. Anyway it's been great I'm able to eat pretty much any foods I want now, scabs have formed the healing process is underway. The thing I've found that helps the most is CHEWING GUM. Anytime you're lying around (which will be a lot) chew gum and keep water around to keep your throat moist. also if you're having trouble at night it helped me to change from Lortab to Advil during the night, since my body seemed to be getting immune to the Lortab. Hope this helps.

Omg... this is the worst advice I've read on line. The tonsillectomy recovery is very painful, granted some people may tolerate pain better than others but nonetheless, it's very painful. Please do not eat toast! It's hard enough to swollow your own saliva. Bacteria will "pass through" (whatever that even means). Brush your teeth daily and your tongue as far back as you can go. Never stop drinking water, don't skip on your pain meds. and rest. Prepare for pain, hang in there it gets better.

I am on day 5 so far day 3-4 was the worse I haven't had a need to take any pain meds today. Just stay hydrated. I did have massive bleeding the night after to the point I had half a sink full of blood before I went to the ER so from then on I kept ice chips near by and haven't had other issue since

[Day 5:] Yesterday, I was in the mall walking around because I cannot stand being at home in this pain all day any longer. I walked around a bit but my throat soon began to hurt more, and my taste buds were literally screaming for me to eat something besides ice cream and jelly. So, I had forgotten I had a tonsillectomy 4 days ago, and ordered sushi at a local resturant! I guess my taste buds got the best of me...After realising that this was gonna be painful, I panicked! I can hardly eat jelly, how am I supposed to eat 10 pieces of sushi?! But I knew i couldn't waste it...so I decided I'd just eat it. When It came, i tried a bit. God, I honestly love sushi so much, so it was amazing for me to taste something other than jelly! And I ate all 10 pieces! Guys, sushi is mostly made up of raw fish, rice and/or avacado. So its actually really soft, but harder than jell-o! And my oh my, you NEED to eat sushi 4 days after tonsillectomy! I promise you guys, it hurts after you finish it, but the next day (today) I WOKE UP IN ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN! I am able to eat anything I want to! (Except crisps) YOU NEED TO TRY THIS GUYS!! ITS HONESTLY WONDERFUL. Im the type of person that goes on these sites to see what pain im going to be in afterwards, until i ate sushi, now i don't have to be part of the people that have constant and painful throats after the operation. And neither do you guys! Eat 10 pieces of sushi, and thats all it takes to prevent the pain! And I think it might remove that layer you get before the scab, which is good! I swear guys, I know the pain you guys are going through, so I wouldn't lie. This worked for me 100%. Even my voice is back to normal! I dont recommend trying this on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day after the op, but the 4th, 5th or any day from there is perfect! This seriously helps guys. It burns for a bit after you eat the sushi, but thats normal, lets be honest: anything hurts ur throat after eating now anyways! But an hour later or so, you'll feel absolutely amazing. PLEASE try this guys!!!

Monday 5/17/21 I had my tonsils taken out. Today is the 21st day 4 and am not eating much. Was eating dairy like cottage cheese, ice cream bars and stuff but am stopping that because I wake up with a throat full of phlegm. Spitting it out helps me breath better. Drinking water helps a lot. I am so hungry but not risking eating normal foods. I am so so hungry lol
There is an awful taste in the back of my throat due to the scabs. Ugh....it tastes awful. I was sucking on numbing throat drops but of course cvs ran out of them. I am using ice packs on my neck and ears and it helps a lot. I am a little dippy from the pain meds and taking mortin really helps. I had a lot of chest discomfort and pressure...and after I emptied my bowels I felt at ease because of the anesthesia. I tried eating potato soup but the roughage hurts to swallow. So now I guess I'll be eating pudding. I'm using a pencil and paper to talk because it just hurts. I only sleep about maybe 2 or 3 hours after pain meds are taken. I'm scared to wake up passed med time and be in major pain. I am also scared about the scabs falling off. I hope it dont hurt bad....im scared of the pain but I'm more hungry than anything.
