Hi guys,
Im eighteen years old and am on day six of my surgery. Here i was thinking this would be a piece of cake, within a couple days I would be good to go. On day two, weirdly I was really good. I hate eggs, toast, banana bread, and noodles haha. BUT than it went on downhill after that. My diet has consisted of very very cold broth, ice chips, water, and the occasinal ice cream if it doesnt hurt to much. I wake up in the middle of the night, with not only extreme throat pains, but my jaw is extremley tight as well. I still have the greyish white things on my throat, and was wondering how long do those stay for?? And is the answer, when they leave do I feel better??? Please if anyone has ANY advice, help, to ease the pain, I would be very appreciative. It is not like my body to take this long to recover, but for the past six days, I have watched numerous television programs and many movies.
Help!!!!

(I Know This Is Late, But Maybe Someone Else Can Scrape Info From It)
Thinking your surgery would be a piece of cake seemed fair, but is a common mistake. It's a simple surgery but it is still a surgery. Doctors recommend taking a week from school/work and 3 weeks from any physical activity. That alone should scream 'HOLD ON A SEC'.
Day Two, You were still happy from the anesthesia, which explains the ability to eat.
Downhill went your diet as it would, and the cold soups, ice, water, and ice cream are easier to take than burning the already burnt insides of your mouth.
Awaking in the night is very common, especially if you take pain meds, in such case, take some more, and go back to bed, only to wake up later. Your jaw was tight due to clenching. You might not have noticed it, but that's what that pain is, clenching to keep the pain away from the throat and ears.
As for the grey and the white, the burns last for a short amount of time, they look like pieces of charcoal was scraped into your mouth. They're rather hard and unpleasant.
After, white blotches appear and it looks like a piece of gum you tried to swallow got stuck. I'm not sure how long those last. They hurt though.
Your entire mouth should return to absolute normality after 2 weeks. But Be sure you've seen your doctor before such time, like maybe a week after the surgery. Good luck.
