Hello Jack..... and other sufferers of delayed pain after bowel movement,

I think I can help. My advice is to step out of the cycle of worry and self-serving doctors, for at least a week and see what happens.

I, too, had been recently suffering greatly from delayed rectal pain after bowel movements - lasting sometimes the entire day so that even my tailbone and upper thighs ached and felt weak. My life was turned upside down by this for over a six week period. Worry? You bet. Doctors...not yet.

Instead I researched the best source on this there is: online blogs by other sufferers from this same condition - such as yourself. I then began the following regimen that cleared up this condition - completely - within three days.

Went to the supermarket and purchased the following items:1. California Pitted Prunes 2. Organic Psyllium Fiber (Konsyl Brand) 3. Generic Stool Softener 4. Organic Flaxseed Meal (Bob's Red Mill Brand) 5. Bottle of Witch Hazel 6. Hemorrhoid Cream

At the outset, snacked on the prunes, eliminated beef, sugars, cheese, bread (not entirely), etc. from diet, loaded up on vegetables, fruits, probiotic infused yogurt and drank and continue to drink spring water throughout the day - I cut down on caloric intake in general.

Twice a day, large glass of water with the Pysllium Fiber. One Stool softener tablet (100mg) per day.

After first bowel movement and shower soaked my rectum thoroughly (flat cotton swabs) with warm (not hot) water and coated rectum lining and surface insides with the witch hazel (advised by a anal fissure specialist online); and swabbed rectum surface with hemmorhoid ointment before dressing. Repeated this process before bedtime.

Ate a few bowls, daily, of organic raison bran and oat cereal (low calorie) sprinkled with two tablespoons of the Organic Flaxseed Meal. Also ate probiotic yogurt, raw almonds for snacks, salads and fish for meals, water, water, water.

Cut back on caffeine and alcohol (one cup java, afternoon tea and one glass of wine per day).

Stuck to this regimen and procedure and will continue to do so - the prunes are a must throughout the day....and water.

The first morning after beginning this regimen I awoke to my clockwork, post-coffee bowel movement, this time before my coffee, and defecated large and soft, but solid. Next day an unusual second bowel movement, as large, soft and solid as previous day, followed an hour after an initial soft bowel movement. Pain free the entire two days for the first time in six weeks. Third day, one bowel movement only but again, large, soft, solid. Pain free, feeling fully restored, energy revitalized and general feeling of intestinal emptiness not felt for months.

My conclusion is that my (and perhaps your) rectal pain was caused from blocked feces within the colon - built up over time due to poor diet, stress, etc. - and that triggers long lasting spasms when we are in the cycle of incomplete bowel movements - and that we may even believe are complete. This, in my view, exasperates anal fissures, hemmorhoids, etc. and over the long term can develop into a serious problem.

I am 56 years of age, active and fit (running for 30 years) and, of course, dealing each day with common stress, professional and family problems as we all do....But, we can maintain and restore our health with self-awareness and common sense approach.

See how my solution to this debilitating problem of delayed rectal pain after bowel movements works for you...again, I was cured of intense and long lasting pain in just a few days. Hope you will be too. Best regards,

Robert W

MY WIFE HAS THE SAME THING. DID YOU GET ANY GOOD REMEDIES OR ANSWERS TO THIS PROBLEM?

I have exactly the same symptoms now for 5 years, had 8 surgical procedures so far, no joy from the pain, it has restricted my life style. The consultants who carried put these procedures, are unable to ascertain the cause of the pain, I am still searching a solution either to eradicate the pain or even reduce the intensity of the pain. Would be grateful of any advice if you find any type of solution or cure.

I have the same problem, pain after a bowel movement. I use q-tips to clean the area by cleaning the remaining stool inside the rectum-- that does cure the problem usually-- however that doesn't seem to be helping as much lately. Went to a doctor, and he looked at me like I was crazy and had no solution. Going to be hard to find a girlfriend like this, it sucks have to clean the area with q-tips after every bowel movement to stop the burning and itching.

I am a 22yr old male and am suffering from delayed pain after bowel movement for the past 2 months. It feels like my anus is burning and tightening up. I try to time my movements so that I can sleep through the pain but it is very intense and mostly keeps me up or wakes me during sleep. I have been drinking around 4 liters of water throughout the day, eating oatmeal and lentils and taking psyllium. My stools are soft to pass but no relief so far. The pain usually sets in 3-4 hours after bowel movement and lasts up to 8 hours. This has been going on for about 2 months now. Ibuprofen, sitz baths and tronolane cream helps a bit but the pain is just unbearable. I have no idea what else I can do now. Please help me.

I had this 6 months ago. Was suicidal with the pain. I had botox injections for the anal fissure. It is supposed to relax the muscles long enough for the oxygen in the increased blood flow to get to the wound and to help heal it.

Immediately after the injections when I came round I was absolutely demented with the pain. The consultant could not understand it. Strong pain relief meds, various types did not even touch the pain. How I managed to get through the night I don't know, but over the next 8 weeks it just ever so slightly got easier. I had lost over 2 stone because I did not want to eat and therefore delaying a bowel movement. If I did go 36 to 48 hours without one I had no pain at all until I went again.

Anyway, over 6 months on, I still get some discomfort at times but I can't believe how well I feel. I do dread it coming back but fingers crossed it hasn't.

I wish all of you sufferers the relief I have found ( at the moment) It is absolutely excruciating and you have my sympathies.

Good luck.

I am the 22 yr old male who posted a few weeks ago about my pain and wanted to update you guys on my situation. Believe it or not my pain has gone. After my last post I kept up my water intake, and high fiber diet. Before, I knew that i had to pass stool as soon as i felt the need to go so that it remains soft however I felt the need after 2 ro 3 days and my stools werent as soft as they could be. I decided to use glycerin suppositories to induce movements daily. Everyday I would use the suppository and empty my bowels of whatever was there. Within 20 minutes I would feel the urge to go. I realized that this lubricated my rectum really well and the stool would literally fall out without any straining. Within a week the pain was gone. I am still keeping up the fiber diet and water intake. I am so relieved and am slowly tapering off the suppository.

I hope the best for everyone here. I can understand your pain. Be strong.

I am a 23 year old male and for 2 years now I've have the delayed pain it usually starts about an hour or two after my BM and it's so intense that I just have to lay on my side for hours till it subsides which usually lasts like 5 hours. When I have a BM it feels like razor blades even if its soft for around the first 5 to 10 seconds then it almost numbs for a while then an hour after is when I start getting the intense pain. When It first started I started with pain during my BMs and and intense itching and if I wiped an hour after my BM the paper would have a foul smelling liquid. I don't get the liquid nomore and the itching isn't as bad as when I started but the pain way worse and sometimes I bleed during my BM as well. Also sometime during my BM when I push I feel a pain or discomfort I can't really explain it around my tailbone. I've been to the doctor a lot of times and the first time I went they checked me with a finger and said they didn't feel anything so they put a clear hollow tube in there and said they didn't see anything either and the just gave me antibiotics and ibuprofen that was when I started I've gone other times and they always say they don't see anything or that it looks like a have fissure. I hate having to go through this every day I have an appointment with the gastrologist or whatever there called on the 22nd this month and every time go to the doctor I worry cuz my BMs are really painful so when they check me there it's painful as well.

My symptoms are a bit different After a bowel movement, I have severe pain in the lower front abdomen (area of intestine), and in a specific section of my lower left back (also in the area of the intestine). The pain lasts for several hours and sometimes into the next day. I become instantly thirsty for water, and I end up drinking anywhere from a pint to a quart of water within minutes after the bowel movement. My abdomen bloats like a pregnant woman approaching the end of her third trimester (I'm a guy). And, get this. I become extremely sleepy - instantly - and usually falling asleep for hours. I've seen specialists and a couple have told me that it's all in my head, because those symptoms together don't match up with any disorder of which they are aware. It's not in my head and this interrupts my work and other responsibilities. I cannot be the only person in the world with these symptoms.

I first have a burning pain then stabbing shards of pain like pins after emptying my bowels twice a day and it bleeds too. Have difficulty walking, can only do so very slowly. The only thing that helps are suppositories but my doctor told me I shouldn't take them daily as they have some streroid in them that can damage the bowel. I'm awaiting an appointment in one/two months time with a specialist to find out what it is as doctor isn't sure. I'll look up endometriosis to see if it may be that. Hope by now you've had some suitable treatment for your problem.

I have been having this problem for 15 years. It started immediately after colonoscopy. Went to numerous doctors, & got no answer. Originally told I had fizzure, but can't be seen. NextTold I had levator syndrome-no cure. Eventually put on phentenyl patch, which has stopped working. I'm in excruciating pain & unable to sit or live a normal life. Now I'm told it's pudendal nerve entrapment, for which there are many people looking for solution. Recently had 5 impar blocks- no help. There are a lot of Drs. Charging Cash for help for these desperate sufferers. There is surgery, but it doesn't help, usually. There is also physical therapy, Botox, but non gives much help. I pray some Drs will start to do some research, but this is a rare problem.

You aren't alone, I have had this god-awful pain for 18 months, every time I move my bowels, had a ton of tests, and they all came back negative. Looking for a new dr. in Boston, hoping and praying they can find the cause of the pain. Sorry I don't have any answers, but just wanted you to know you are not alone in this pain. I am 57 year old woman who was never sick until I was 55 and then all of a sudden PAIN.!!!! My brother died of colon cancer at age 57 so this is very much on my mind. If you find anything that works please let me know. I've tried, Librax, percocet, tramadol, nothing cuts through the pain.

I have the same awful pain, if you heard of anything that helps, please post. I take Tylenol 3 and that doesn't help it, only thing that works for me is sleeping, for about 3 hours, then a very hot bath. I'm trying new medicine tomorrow Belladonna and Opiate Suppositories, I hope they work. Good luck!!!
