What are the chances that a baby will be a stillbirth if she has diabetes?  I have juvenile diabetes and I had someone tell me not to have a baby because it can be a stillborn.  I would love to have a baby someday but should I if it won't make it?

Nowadays, it is perfectly o.k. for a type 1 diabetic woman to carry a baby.  About 20 or more years ago, it was discouraged for a juvenile diabetic woman to become pregnant.  You can have a baby and carry it safely with under the care of a obstetrician.  You would be given an insulin pump for the duration of the pregnancy to maximize the effectiveness of the insulin.  You would be fine and the baby's chance of being stillborn is minimal if not comparable with a pregnant woman who is not diabetic.

My pregnancy went very well for me.  I know how it is to be worried about having problems with your baby but I am a type 1 diabetic and things went very well.  You will have your doctor and the nurse watching you every step of the way and you can always call them if you have any questions.  It is better to call then to worry and stew about it for any length of time.  The pump is small and very portable so you don’t have to worry about a big device to carry about with you.  It unplugs for when you want to take a bath or a shower too.  It sounds intimidating at first but it really isn’t  and it is so convenient.  You will do ok with your pregnancy.  My baby is healthy and has no health problems at all. You will be under good care so don’t sweat it.  Just enjoy your pregnancy when you do get pregnant.
