do you think punishment is only effective if the wrongdoer is made to suffer and to feel misreable ?

i am doing a project for school and its about if punishment only works if the person is made to suffer and feel misreable, i have to include my own experiance of punishment in my essays, my worst punishment was a 4 hour saturday detention we had to wear full school uniform ( i live in uk ) white shirt tie, black skirt and black blazer, we then had to sit at our desks in Total silence and write punishment essays, my crime was skipping a normal 1 and a half hour detention, the punishment was misreable and i WONT be skipping detention again , so you could say that the punishment worked, any opinions please ?

If you don't miss another detention again it worked obviously,4 hours is a long time to sit in silence ,so you e probably learnt your lesson ,is it an all girl's school?

no its a mixed school, we had to be in school at 830am for registration and i FULL school uniform inspection we had to have our collars done up, tie neat and tidy and shoes polished, then we had to write our punishment essays in total silence, after 2 hours we had a 15 minute break then another 2 hours of essay writing, it was a MISREALE punishment, to make things worse i still had to serve the original 1 and a half hour detention that i skipped in the first place, i think that is so UNFAIR dont you ?

yea it's unfair ,but what did you you do wrong to get the original detention,also it's a long time to sit in full school uniform bit harsh

i was messing around in class, the teacher told me to behave several times but i ignored her, in the end she got fed up with me and put me in detention.my mum picked me up from school on the saturday and made me walk around the shops with her in my uniform, she said that was her punishment, i didnt get out of my uniform until 4pm it was MISREABLE ?

yea as a teenager you will want to wear clothes you like and feel comfortable in,not a frumpy old school uniform,yes it's bad being miserable ,but fun when your free from your punishment,hope you get it sorted

not only did i have to suffer the misery of saturday detention , but i also missed out on my friends birthday party, i asked my parents to get my punishment put off until the following saturday but they refused, saying punishment is not meant to be conveniant its meant to punish, so we learn a lesson ?

so you were punished twice to be fair ,no way ,you couldn't go to a friend's birthday party and you had to do a Saturday detention ,double whammy ,so unfair ,I feel your pain ,I hate things like this ,what we supposed to do ,just suck it up ,no way,I hope you don't have to do another detention ,it seems you've been punished twice ffs

i wont be getting anymore detentions they are very boring and i dont like having my free time taken away punishment STINKS ?

I'm glad you won't be getting anymore detentions ,and you will be able to spend quality time with your friends and not in a boring classroom twiddling your thumbs ,hope it works out for you Lucy
