I was diagnosed with Leichen Sclerosis about a year ago. What causes this and what can be done? I happen to have it in me genetal area and it is spreading. I cannot be intimate with my husband anymore, because the skin tears and then it takes weeks for it to heal and then I have scarring. It seems to have spread towards my rectal area, which may have caused my anal fissures. I just recently had a lateral spincterotomy on 10/29 and it is slow healing. My doctor thought that I had inflamatory bowel disease, but when I told her about the leichen sclerosis, she said that the fissures were probably caused by that. They were not in the normal place that they should be from straining when I have a BM.
I am at a loss of what to do. I don't believe that there is a surgery for this to remove the affected skin? Is there any kind of medicine that you can take to thicken the skin in that area, so that you don't have tearing, or something that will prevent the spreading of it?
Can my husband contract it from me?

I am at a loss.
You are not alone. I have had this for several years and it is becoming worse. Everything you mentioned I have experienced and know
how painful and difficult it is to deal with. I have struggled for years and am now looking to get help from an immunologist. I recently
had a reaction to hair dye that I have had professional done for over 5 years and was told in the Urgent Care it was also a side effect
of this disease. I will update you when I get more information. I am at the end of my rope so hopefully I will get some results.

Hang in there!
