Does Depression worsen with stopping alcohol?

I have drank at least six glasses of wine in the evening for thirteen years. I quit cold turkey on Feb.7,of this year. I am suffering from more depression than usual. Is this normal? I am on 150mg. of Effexor a day. Thank you for your time. Marcia Wolf
