That is why I'm here! I am a cyclist in my 50s and after a hard ride I spot, usually around ovulation time. Good to see I'm not alone, and I'm NOT going to stop or slow down because of it. :) Keep going!

Hi all,

I am the original poster of this question. I am already 33 years old this year (2015). I come back here because I was again looking for any 'updated' answer to the spotting. But seeing so many have posted in this thead, I decided to write in again hopefully it can provide a peace of mind to some of you here.

My first post was when I was 25 year old. I was young and love going for gym classes (5,6 times a week) and my spotting would appear right in the middle(around 3rd week) of the period cycle. And the amount of spotting and duration get worse over times. I finally consulted a Chinese TCM and took herbal medicine and the spotting gradually stopped. The Chinese doc said that my 'QI' was weak and the medicine help to improve the 'QI'. I also stopped exercise.

Fast forward now, I have a 3 year old toddler now (delivered via c-sect) and am totally out of shape. I started to go back to exercising, and you probably have guessed it, our good friend "spotting" returned once more.

Over these years, the gynae checks, the ultra sounds (including the intrusive tests for i was once suspected with ectopic pregnancy), pap smears so far did not return any abnormal result.

So my guess is that maybe the exercise does cause some hormonal changes which somehow cause the light pink/brown bleeding. I am no doctor and I have no absolute answer. My best advise for you would be to consult a gynae and do ultra sound check, pap smear etc to rule out any of the nasty causes other than exercising. My only way now is to eat less and do some light exercise instead like walking, cycling. etc

Cheers!

Hi

I am glad i found this.

I started exercise last month. N have spotting one day when i went toilet and found this pinkish brpwn discharge on my tissue. I very scared that time and is first time like this sporting after my period. After that no more spotting then i forgot about it.

I exercise everday for last two weeks. I doing abs , legs , arms and whole body workout with dumbell for thirty min for about 3 to 4 times a week and other days run threadmill. Last fri i increase my treadmill speed to 7.5mph and i run for 1 hour. Next day sat i ran treadmill again for and hour. On sun i ran treadmill again for 40 min and this time i increaee the slope and the speed to 8.5mph in between. After that i went for 1 hour hot yoga. At that night i found blood on my panty when i going to shower. I very scared. Nxt day morning also there is this pink8sh discharge on my panty. Then no more spotting at the night.

I feel very worried and i go clinic see doctor on Mon. Doctor said must be due to my intense exercise everyday and he suggested me to do ultrasound and blood test. The appointment is next week. But till now i still very worried but no more spotting and i have stop exercise for 3 days. Iam not sure should i go for ultrasounds? Is it normal spotting? I suspect is due to i exercise everyday.

I very worried . Should i leave it till next month and see how it goes on? Should i stop exercise?

Hi, I have just started spotting if I workout hard or after intercourse sometimes. I have been diagnosed with a fibroyed inside my womb so I am assuming it is this that is causing the spotting. Sometimes I have cramp and sometimes not. I'm going back to the doctor to see if anything can be done as I don't want to give up exercise but I don't want to be 'on' more than normal. Oh and I don't take birth control as the husband has had a vasectomy.

I'm so glad to have found this forum! I have had 3 caesarians and also suffer from health anxiety. I really, reeeeally started enjoying running about a year ago and exercising and I was having heavy periods, short cycles and mid cycle bleeds. My Dr thought maybe adenomyosis and peri-menopause. Out of fear, I stopped my exercising which stopped the mid-cycle bleeding/spotting - have also put on 4 kilos booooo!

Anyway, I went onto b/c pill to address the heavy periods which has worked a treat. So now I've got the courage up to do a bit of exercise again, (I've been doing some abdominal work and lots of discus throws with twisting, bending etc and overdid it yesterday) Sure enough, the spotting has returned and I have a bit of an ache along my caesarean scar line. So scary and inconvenient. I think I will have the ultrasound just to check for the fibroids, and I never realised that the ultrasound wouldn't pick up polyps. Something to consider. Like most of you, it would be useful to have some sort of concrete answers and it's a little disturbing that OB/GYN seem perplexed when people raise this issue!

Hi ladies,

I found out recently that I have a bicornuate uterus. I wonder if that has something to do with the spotting when I surf. I am 31 years old and started spotting during hard core exercise or surfing only a few months ago.

I'm in the same boat ladies! I have a light brownish pink spotting when not on my cycle when I started changing my exercise routine to increased cardio with continuing weights. I think the running has done it as well! Annoying! So glad to have found this thread

38 years old, 3 children, workout 1-3 days per week except for spurts where I am active, but not structured workouts. I have done yoga, rowing, running with no issues. I have been lifting heavy; squats, deadlifts, sprint intervals, etc. hard workouts for 4 months. Three months almost in a row, I have had blood when wiping the evening after a hard workout anywhere from 3 to 15 days following the end of my period. I've been emotional and not on any IUD or oral contraceptives; no contraceptives of any kind. Normal vaginal deliveries of my children and no hysterectomy or medical history to speak of. Hmmm.

Hi I am new here but read all the posts. I have the same problem.......light pink or light red spotting after I exercise. It only requires a panty liner sometimes only when I wipe but it causes me anxiety. I notice it especially after lifting very heavy weights or doing a lot of burpees or high impact/crossfit
I am 48 and confirmed blood test that i am periomenopause. Had ultrasound which showed a fibroid
My periods are erratic right now because of peri but there is a definite link with the spotting coming after exercise. so I went to the gyno and told him and he said he NEVER heard of it???? he said I was a "unusual case" and thats when he sent me for the blood work and ultrasound.
I asked should I stop working out hard and he said NO
The thing I do not understand is how/why do all these doctors have no idea about this issue I know tests and things are necessary but this seems to be a common problem and i cant believe when drs say i never heard of this...........I truly believe it is a hormone thing and have started to see my chiro for adjustments and accupuncture started meditating trying to control stress,
I have started to cut back on my intense workouts and that is making me totally miserable

This is the same exact thing that's happening to me. I've been on the depo injection for over more than a year & haven't had a period in such a long time. This just began a week ago that I am having brown discharge ONLY when I workout. Is this normal or is there any explanation?
