I started taking fexofenadine hydrochloride about 6 weeks ago. It was the best hayfever tablets I have ever taken, but the last three weeks I've started feeling really low and didn't know what to put it down to having never felt low. I'm always happy and full of life. I can only put it down to this medication, although depression isn't named as a side effect. I stopped taking the medication a couple of days ago and feel so much better in myself, although my hayfever is back, I'll suffer that rather than the awful depression this has caused.
I started taking Fexofenadine a generic for Allegra for my sinuses about a month ago. I thought it was great until I began to notice I felt kind of blue. I began thinking I wanted to pack up everything in my house to have simple life. I didn't want to greet my dogs after work or even pet them. I began wanting to avoid people, just didn't want to be around them. Next thing I knew I began to weep often, over absolutely Nothing! Simply tearing up suddenly. I did a search on Allegra and depression .......then stopped taking the drug the next dose! I'm back to my happy self.
Yes! I have been taking Allegra D for chronic sinusitis everyday for the last 4-5 months. It is the only thing that has stopped my chronic sinus infections but I haven't felt like myself at all. Ive been feeling so completely hopeless and constantly wanting to run away from everything, even though I have a pretty incredible life. I've kept feeling like something is wrong with me. Last week I stopped taking the Allegra D because I ran out, and I was like my old self again! It was the best week I've had in months! But then I started taking it again two days agai and am back to feeling miserable- I didn't make the connection until tonight and I'm so glad I googled it! I will not be taking it again and hopefully will start feeling better in a couple of day. I am extremely sensitive to things in general (medications, alcohol, caffeine, etc) so maybe that is why this affects us so much? My family also has a history of depression so this could be triggering something I'm already predisposed to? Not sure, but I plan to stop taking any allergy medications for awhile
And see if it helps!

Yep me too - Telfast is no good
Wow, that's powerful. Thank you for sharing you're experience! I'm so glad you were able to figure it out & help yourself get better.
I had the worst experience with my allergy medicine. I kept feeling very depressed and I didn't want to live anymore. I cried all the time when I would take it and my life was in a dark place. I just recently figured it out and I'll never take it again. Glad I could read where others had the same problem.
So like a lot of other people on these posts, I found this while searching for Allegra and depression because I felt like there was a connection. I started taking Allegra because of some annoying post nasal drip and it did work. But almost as soon as I started taking it I felt a little off. That feeling got worse every day and soon turned into a full blown depression. After about a week of this I decided to stop taking Allegra just to see if it was related and I have to say that the "fog" lifted after just one day of stopping it. Needless to say, I won't be taking Allegra or anything like it again.
I have taken Allegra before for hay fever and had no problems. It's been a few years since I needed it. I've been doing more yard work this year, so started taking it. I feel BAD with depression. Don't want to do anything, can't laugh or smile, just thinking of dying every day. Stopped the Allegra and am slowly feeling better. Don't think I'll ever take it again. Why isn't depression listed in the side effects?
I absolutely have brain fog and depression when taking Allegra. I felt like I was losing my mind, very disconnected. I was totally fine except for allergies until I started taking it. I would definitely take him off and see if it helps.
It affects me so much. I posted this a while ago that i almost got a divorce after 24 happy years. Antihistamines can really change moods.
I would say Yes, that is why I am on this website researching it. I am normally a very up beat, happy person and since I started Allegra all of a sudden I have become sad.
Isnt Singulair more depressing, there is a huge warning about Singulair and depression.
It probably is i guess they all seem to be. I would rather suffer and use saline rinses than be extremely depressed.
Have only been taking allergy meds for a few weeks. I'm normally happy and energetic. Now I'm feeling so fatigued and depressed that I don't want to do ANYTHING. Everything I do takes such great effort. And all my joints are stiff and sore. I've also been having such vivid dreams and today started experiencing stomach problems. So glad I read this post! I'm going to see if I can discontinue the meds starting tomorrow. Thanks for your information.
YES - our son was taking Allegra for 7 months and during this time was unusually DEPRESSED, saying things like "nothing is fun anymore". He also experienced MIGRAINES.
Both the MIGRAINES and the DEPRESSION stopped immediately after we took him off the Allegra.
