Im 20 years old and have been in college for 3 years now. Im 5'5, 140 pounds, and i am active and exercise a few times a week. I dont smoke cigarettes. Occasionally i smoke weed but dont do any other drugs. Since my freshman year i have been drinking at least 2-3 times a week, every now and then 4 times. Most of these nights i am having well over 10 drinks, mostly beer but i usually end up having a few shots in between. A few months ago i started having trouble getting hard during sex or couldnt get an erection at all and then i also started to realize too that i wasnt getting morning erections anymore and never getting them at all during the day like i used to. Now whats getting worse is after drinking my heart rate is very fast throughout the day even when resting and i sometimes feel like im having trouble breathing, i never had these symptoms after drinking until about last month. I know i should be going to visit the doctor because it keeps reoccurring. I know my heart and breathing is because of the amount i drank the night before and i need to stop but i am a lot more concerned about the erection problems i am experiencing. Any advice or help as to why i have lost my ability to get them? I keep reading that it could be developing diabetes or damaging my nervous system.
Hi Dave,

A thorough physical exam would be a good idea, especially if you haven't had one in a while.

Lay off the alcohol.  It can and does cause erectile problems.  Weed can do the same.

10 drinks is a lot, especially for someone of your build.  While it may not lead to diabetes, it can certainly be causing damage to your liver.

Hope it helps.  Good luck.

The shortness of breath and difficulty getting an erection could be a sign of artery or heart problems too.
