I had a mammogram on Thursday. Friday I felt chest pain and contributed the pain to a strained muscle. Saturday, the pain was worse. Today, Sunday, I am thinking about going to the ER due to severe pain. I think the tech squeezed too hard and pulled a muscle or tendon. I don't want to look like an id**t going in for chest pains due to a mammogram. This pain is severe!

Thanks for respond. I had a mamogram yesterday and my breast is hurting. I have never had this experience before. I am quite worried that my breast tissue is damaged. She pressed it far too tight and I felt it. Is there something to worry about? Do I go back to my doctor? Thank you.

Hi. I'm 42 years old. Just had my first mammogram done yesterday. It was the worst experience of pain I've evet encountered in my life. My left breast throbs to a point I'm holding it and crying. I pray my tissues are not damaged. Did the pain ever go away? What should I do to comfort the pain?

I understand the way you feel but I can only hope you change your mind. My mother felt the same as you and had a painful mammogram done and decided to never go back. In 2009 she became ill, I took her to the doctor every saturday for about 3 months. It started as a chest cold and turned into pnemonia and she went on antibiotics to fight the infection. She seemed to be doing better but then she began to feel back pain, I took her to the doctor again and he said he thought she was addicted to pain meds. I asked him how she could be addicted to pain meds when she didnt even get any from him (he obviously had the wrong chart but didnt want to admit it) and told me if I didnt agree to take her to the ER and they would do some tests. i took her thinking well she probably has kidney stones from being dehydrated while she was sick. I was blind sided and my whole world shattered when the ER doctor said she had stage 4 breast cancer and that it was left untreated so long that it had shut down her liver, spread to her bones and Lymph nodes. My mom died 5 days later and there is not enough words to explain how devastated I was and still am to this day. Had she gotten checked she may have seen her grandsons graduate from high school, she may have danced at my sons wedding or cried with me the day my grandson was born. My mom was my best friend and I miss her every day so when you say you dont want to get checked I hope you consider what its like for the people that love you that are left behind.

I went through the same problem after a mammogram at Southwest hospital. My right breast is burning and hurting very bad anytime I lean or touch it lightly. Its spreading and getting worse. Never had this ever before.

i had that happen to me. I had old silicone breast implants and was afraid that they were leaking because of slight pain. I was told by the receptionist at the plastic surgeon's office that he would require a mammogram before he would see me, so I had one. Wow, so much pain...I had to take major painkillers and missed work as a result. When I got in to see the dr., he said he goes more by symptoms and wouldn't have required a mammogram, and that 100% of silicone implants that he had seen that were as old as mine (19 years) ruptured . They couldn't fit me in to have the implants removed for 6 weeks!!! I had to sleep sitting up for the entire time, otherwise it was too painful. Surgery took hours; they had to scrape out silicone from breast tissue. They must have scraped more out of one breast, because the difference in size in each breast is noticeable. Being a plastic surgeon, he tried to talk me into getting saline implants, which don't last forever, either...no thanks, I'm not signing up for future surgeries to keep having them replaced every few years. So see your doctor ASAP!!!

I swear my first mammogram was my last, it was so painful it made me cry, my breasts are not flat and are quite fleshy and I was horrified at the way the plates squashed me in an unnatural way, it was very painful and I received little comfort from the staff. I left the unit in tears and had pain in my breasts for a few days afterwards, never again, I check my own breasts manually now very often.

I agree with you. Ladies make sure you have a mammogram. Just had one and they found an7 millimetre cancer spot in me. It would never have been detected without the mammogram

I got my first mammogram two days ago and am experiencing pain in my left breast. The technician cranked down especially hard on my left breast on the last picture she took. It hurt but I didn't say anything because I was trying to be tough. I called her today to ask if there could be damage to my breast tissue but she just kept saying she has never heard of anyone experience pain after a mammogram. One spot is painful and it feels like there is a lump there. I don't know if I will get another mammogram.

I have pain now because of a mammogram I had two days ago. I agree with you, it is probably my last. I had no idea these things could cause tissue damage and pain. Not to mention the radiation we are exposed to can cause cancer.

Well, after reading many different posts in this topic, I figured I'd relay my experience too:

I went in for a Mammogram 1.5 weeks ago, my first one in quite some time; I'm 60, have had tons of Mammos previously (that never hurt), so it was about time to get one again.

Anyways, despite the good news that I'm cancer-free (tho w/ dense tissue), the experience at the clinic was just terrible. During the procedure, I kept telling the tech that my breast was hurting and all that, but she just seemed to ignore/blow off my complaints, and went on w/ the Mammogram. As I came out & into the lobby, I winced in pain and told my boyfriend about it; he figured I was making a big deal out of nothing, so off we went.

So now here I am, almost 2 weeks later, and I have a large (almost baseball sized) bruise all around my right breast & nipple area. It constantly throbs and is extremely tender & painful to the touch... and it's really upsetting me that this occurred. I mean, I know the machine is meant to 'pinch' or w/e, but I've never had this happen before, after countless Mammograms, so I can't help but to think that the tech/something wasn't right.

That being said, and after reading this topic, I will be calling the clinic back tomorrow to report what occurred. I'm assuming they've dealt w/ this type of thing before... but I won't feel right if I don't, at least, let them know that they really caused me a lot of unnecessary pain. :s

Thanks to everyone that has posted; it definitely helps to read & see that I'm not the only 1 that, unfortunately, had this type of experience... and that others agree that it is BS that it even happens like this.

I had my first mamagram when I was 50. I was nervous as all get out. What made it worse was the nurse or tech (don't know what thet are) kept asking me if I did my monthly self exams. I told her I didn't do them every month but did do them occasionally. She got all bent out of shape and slapped this fake pink boob down in front of me and told me to show her how I did a self exam. After squeezing and pressing on this fake boob she grabbed my boobs and starting pressing and squeezing. I really felt violated at this point but was too scared to do something because I did think something was wrong with my breasts. After a very painful mamagram I managed to get dressed ( after she told me to wait, I did not want to wait I wanted out of there) and did not even look at her and left. I remember how I felt then, and I would feel the same way today but now I know I would have the guts to speak up to someone because I believe she got off on feeling me up. How many more women had to go through the same experience at the hands of the nurse from hell
