I had a standard mammogram a month ago and a follow up "diagnostic" on one breast almost two weeks ago. I am experiencing "zings' of pain in both breasts but much more on the side of the second one. I had an ultrasound after the diagnostic mammogram on which nothing was found. I was told my breasts are "dense." I am supposed to go for another mammogram in six months. Not going to happen. I'll tell my doc that I'll do an ultrasound, but I am not doing another mammogram.

I'm still suffering serious pain in my right breast four mths after having a mammo. I have never had breast pain before and now I am awake at nights due to the discomfort and usually wear a support bra for some relief. Mammos I have decided are barbaric and next time I will have an ultra sound and never again a mammo. I doubt there are many males who would agree to having their testicles squashed as flat as can be inbetween two metal plates!

I read through these posts in order to see if others feel the way I do. I had a few mammograms done before and I SWEAR it seems like my breasts have increased in size since! After a period of time, they go back down, but I hate the swelling. Like the others have said, I have pain in my breasts which seems to have come since getting my FIRST mammogram. I hate getting them. It just seems like there should be a better way to check the breasts.

Well, I just had my 3rd mammogram because I wanted to be sure I did not have cancer. The first one was not pleasant, but they saw something suspicious and wanted more detail so I had another mammogram with higher definition (why they don't just do that one in the first place is beyond me), still suspicious so they sent me to a surgeon who viewed the mammogram and ultrasound, did an exam, and told me to see him in three months--when my repeat mammogram was scheduled for June. I had another mammogram today and was told it was just a cyst, nothing to worry about. Before that I was told there were tiny areas of calcification and multiple enlarged cyst-like structures behind the nipple. Now, after all that worry and delay, they tell me they'll send me a letter with the details in it. The second mammogram left me bruised with blood blisters on my breast because the technician squeezed it so tight to get a good shot of the muscle--not to mention she yanked my arm up after I told her I had a torn rotator cuff. Didn't deter her when I let out a yelp when she did that and had tears in my eyes. All she told me is men have to have mammograms, imagine how that feels for them. I stayed with pain in that breast and sensitivity since and my shoulder and arm hurt for a good month after. I wanted to report her but she is the only technician at the local hospital who does them and I feared I'd have to go back, as that is where my doctor sends me for tests. I decided to change doctors and went today to a town 30 miles away. The mammogram still hurt, at one point I did tell the technician it felt like my skin was being cut even if it was not. I do not understand how they have not found another less painful way, without all that tissue damage and radiation, to diagnose. I can't help but feel it is because as women we put up with too much. If a man had to put his private parts between two plates and get the life squeezed out of it, a new way would have been found by now.

I had a mammogram about 5 days ago. Within a day after the mammogram my right breast on the top near my arm pit has had severe burning pain. I am large breasted. It is especially painful when I have to bend over. Gravity is not on my side. I thought possibly a pulled muscle. I hope it will go away soon. Then yesterday I got a call saying they want me to come for an ultrasound on my left breast. They would not tell me anything so now I am nervous about what they saw. Praying it is nothing but will not know for about another week when I do the ultrasound.

I read your post and have had similar problems since my mammogram almost a week ago. I have a severe burning in my right breast. I hope it goes away soon. I was called back to have an ultrasound on the left breast. I have never had any problems with previous mammograms. I have large breast and it hurts severely when I bend over. It hurts just standing also but worse when gravity happens. Did you ever find out what caused the burning sensation for you? Did it ever go away? I hope so

I just had a DIT
Digital Imaging Thermography done on both breast yesterday. Cost was 150.00 ..simple, pain free, no compression, radiation. Ins. did not cover this but I am willing to pay since I had excruciating pain as well when I had my last mammogram and I wasn't going back!..I have to go in 3 months for another..This was a baseline

Before I went to get a mamagram done, I was perfectly fine. Just thought I'd go to check a lump I felt on my left breast. Went and got 2 shots on each breast a total of 4 the first time. She said she'd go take it to the Radiologist (Dr Chen). Came back to tell me she don't see anything but bits of calcium build up. We need to take more shots that is magnified. I asked can't you magnify the 4 shots you took? She said no and got 4 more shots done. A total of 8 in one appointment within the hour. I asked if it was safe she said yes. After the 8 radiation shots, the send me to ultrasound (same appointment). A week later after the mammogram. I've been getting extreme chest pain that'll last about 5 minutes or so. I'd be looking like i'm having a heart attack or dying in front of my kids. Asking god to save me while I'm rolling on the sofa in pain. My daughter asks do you want me to call the ambulance, I felt like I'm gonna dye. I think one day this occurring pain that I have been getting from the mammogram is gonna kill me one day. Hope it goes away. I feel like suing them.

I'm assuming your a medical proffesional by your answer?? Don't you think we are dissapointed in the disgusting way you all treat us while having a mammogram?! We are treated like cattle, the technicians are rude and rough, and do not care if your are in pain or not. We are not supposed to say a word from the time we're called back to change till the time we are kicked out the door! Are concerns and questions are not answered OR truly listened to! Maybe if we moo'd while going thru the process we'd get a response of sone sort!
It's been almost a month since I've had a clear mammogram and breasts have never continuously hurt like they have since then. Do you honestly think I want to GO BACK to my doctor or Breast center knowing what pain they put us through?
You all are unbelievable and despicable!

I have had similar pain. It hasn't been a full month yet since I had my mammogram, but the pain continues. It hurts from my armpits into my breasts and sides, and my back right behind my breasts. My right breast looks like its been stretched and they are both swollen to the touch, not to mention the burning in my nipples! I've never had any issues with my breast before and I'm hoping it subsides soon, but I'm to hesitant to tell the doctor in fear of getting laughed at or told it's all in my head! I too have to now constantly wear a support bra while I sleep because the pain is so bad without one when I wake up. I wrote a letter to the hospital telling them of my horrible experience and their own conflicting advice about how often to have a mammogram. The only thing I got back was a letter literally congratulating me on not having cancer!

My breast cancer was found by a mammogram three years ago, and following treatment I’m still here. It’s a small discomfort for huge benefits. The earlier thecance is found the more treatable it is.
