I had a 3d mammogram last week. My breasts are so sore now I can barely touch them. It feels like I've got a sunburn on the inside. In 2014 I had a 2d screening that showed an abnormality. After numerous xrays...16 of my left breast alone...and two failed sonograms, I decided to wait until 3d was available in my area. This time my films were clear. I've decided that from now on I'm going with thermology. I mean, how much sense does it make to shoot radiation...which causes cancer...into your breasts to see if you have cancer? About as much as treating cancer with chemo, which is a carcinogen. If there is a tumor present, is it wise to smash it? I don't think so. It's finally coming out now that mammograms can cause more harm than good. Numerous false positives, some leading to mascectomies, the trauma involved if you're told to come back every few months, keeping that stress hanging over your head. It's a personal choice, and my choice is, I've had my last mammogram.

Let me tell you. I was all set up with different doctors . Pain was so ad it traveled down my arms. Could not lift anything. Later around with ice packs for over a month. I have thick breasts and suffer from conservative disease. Was ready to have them removed. What was puzzling it hurt worse as days went by. This was all associated with mammogram .Hope enough of us complain and this problem taken care of. Never again.

I had the same issue today but was prepared for it, because the skin underneath my breasts is very thin and delicate. I did start bleeding quite a bit. I anticipated discomfort but not such a severe tear or the pain. Next time, before I go, I'm going to put on Nystatin (anti-fungal) and Triamcinolone (corticosteroid) on the areas for a couple days to strengthen the skin. I usually put those on once I have an irritation or sore, but putting them on pre-emptively will toughen up the skin a bit. Only for two or three days prior, though - no need to overdo it.

You may have had a small tear or irritation before that and it just worsened with the exam. The technician, who was lovely and very apologetic, told me to reschedule my mammogram in the future if I see an irritation before my exam.

Wow I am so glad to find that I am not alone. I had my first mammogram at age 52 last year. There was no pain during the mammogram, but a day or two after...My left breast felt exactly like it did when I had mastitis with my child while breastfeeding. I was in the bed for about a month with ice packs and pain meds that I already had on hand. Like others, I called after two weeks and was told to keep doing what I was doing. I felt like many of you that I wasn't taken seriously enough. I was told before hand by several in the office that the mammogram would not hurt and my doctor even told me to tell them to be exact careful with me. Well they were right the mammogram didn't hurt, but no one warned me that there was a chance of all this pain afterwards. I was called back because of something they saw on my left breast which wasn't hurting at all at that time. I never went. Now a year later, I am still suffering from the same symptoms at different times during the month. I feel helpless as there is nothing we can do about this and I don't want anyone doing whether testing which I understand could be life threatening. We should not have to feel like this.

Yep. Happened today. They should allow the patient to smooth up the underneath part of the breast as much as possible themselves because clearly they have ZERO clue since they can't feel what's happening or just how easily the skin can rip.

Mamielyn, Shall I scared you , The wire that they are going to put in your breast, toward the lump, or what ever they think they see, will be put in while you are awake, with no pain management! They did this to me, and I passed out! This is a sort of a guide wire. All I had was a blocked milk duct. I am a strong woman, but you can take just so much. I was 40 at the time, when wheeled into the operating room , my Dr, said is that you Mary, I looked grey, he, the Dr. checked my I'd band to make sure it was me! I am now 69, no more mammo for ME!

I see a lot of complaints about getting a mammogram. I'm 70 yrs old and I have one on a regular basis. I had one yesterday and had pain last night in my breast. It was the first time ever having pain. The way I see it is they can turn me upside down and squeeze any part of my body for as long as they want if it will help keep me from getting breast cancer. Quit complaining about the pain to your breast and be glad the technology is available.

My left breast don't have a problem until I had a horrible mammogram done 3 years ago. Before the 4th picture was taken, I told the technician it hurts already and I hesitated the next. but she assured and promised me it won't hurt anymore as the last one. But then The machine continues to press more, It's so painful that I screamed the tech to release my breast. So My left breast was trapped until the glass plate popped broke. Again, I cried for help. The tech came back wondering of the loud bang. After she found out what was happening, she rushed to go back to the other side of the wall. As I watch my breast trapped In pain , i have to wait again and I can't do anything to release myself.

It was so painful My husband rushed me to the emergency room.

The pain of pulling and tugging never left my breast. The valium shot, pain shot, cold pack, ibuprophen and ointment didn't help.

I also am having pain in my right breast area from a mammogram over a week ago. It is a shooting pain. The area looks and feels swollen directly under the breast and tender to the touch. A couple of years ago I mentioned to my doctor about how painful mine was the year before and she said will modern technology it should not be painful.
