Hello I dont know if all of your problems are connected they probably are

I shall explain mine briefly. but not totaly similar to yours

My doctor says i have trigeminal neuralgia in my face.
I had this funny sensation in my left cheek, it felt bigger, tingled, numb a bit, all on and off, and then my gums started hurting, burning, all on the left side of my face.
I went to the doctors they did not know, i went to the dentilst asked them to take XRAYS, they said one tooth might need a root canal, instead of the heavy filling, as it was quite near the facial nerve, but i did not have any toothache, this tooth was just being done so i could rule out any dental problems.
I still have this in my face, and now a sharp intermitant pain too, in my head, left side. pressure when i bend down in the left cheek.
the doctor on the 18th of April put me on strong tablets, Carbamazepine, which i am not keen on

I am not in the age group to get this

Who gets trigeminal neuralgia?
TN is uncommon. About 10 people in 100,000 develop it each year. It mainly affects older people, and it usually starts in your 60s or 70s. It is rare in younger adults. Women are more commonly affected than men

My dad suffered for 45 years with Tic D....Then about 6-7 years ago he had Gamma Knife surgery and walked out of the room pain free! He has never had pain since! Out patient procedure--no cutting! Done with computer and gamma rays! Very few docs can do this. Search it out.

Hi, this is my first post ever of this kind. I hope I'm not too late on this one to see if I'm not alone and if anyone has successfully conquered what I'm going through. I'll start by telling you that I have had jaw and mouth pain for a couple years now. I've been to dentists, an oral surgeon and a internal medicine doc. I've ended up with a cortisone mouth wash and lidocaine. Well just in the last four months the right side of my mouth and face have gone crazy. Inside my mouth my gums and tongue feel like I rubbed icy hot on them and all of my teeth are very sensitive. Only on the right side. My left side doesn't hurt at all. Now to the outside of my face, my jaw bone feels like I got punched. These sensations are constant. I wake up and go to bed with this. To make it worse I now have these flare ups or episodes, I don't know what to call them, where the pain spreads to the opening of my ear and up into my cheekbone and temple. It can be so severe that I've wanted to go to the ER and I have no insurance. It hurts so much that I just cry and want to run away or beak things. So far the internal doc came up with trigeminal neuralgia which seemed like the closest explanation so far but not a total fit because this never stops. I always have sensations and mild pain with major occurrences that can last hours. This is driving my crazy and feels like it's ruining my life. My doc wars me to take gabapentin or carbamezapine. They are both anti seizure meds that have pretty severe side effects both short and long term (potentially) I have read that most long term complications end up being from taking these meds rather than the condition itself. I have declined these meds not only for side effects but also they can take up to three Weeks to work and need to be taken daily. I just want something for when I have a flare up that will work in 20 min. I don't want to take something everyday. Unfortunately over the counter stuff doesn't touch it so at this point I'm just suffering a lot and not functioning at 100%. The oral surgeon I went to today thinks it's muscular. Myofascial pain in my jaw that is potentially aggravating the nerves inside my mouth. He has recommended soft food, heat and physical therapy. I'll give that a shot but right now I'm just feeling frustrated because I can't seem to finda definitive diagnosis and not sure what my options for treatment are because of that. All that I've read indicates people with similar symptoms have them for many years or life. That thoroughly upsets me. I want to wake up tomorrow and have the right side just feel like the left. I feel like I want to pump the right side full of lidocaine just to get a break from it. Not that I would wish this on anyone, well maybe one or two people, but I'm hoping to find either someone who has this or a physician that knows what this is. I hoping to find some success stories from people who beat whatever this is and to know how you did it. Thank you for reading. Remember this is all on my right side it's dull and mild constantly and become insanely painful at random times

I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH WHAT SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME THING . THE PAIN ACTUALLY GOT SO INTENSE IT WOULD RADIATE INTO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. MY HEAD ALSO GOES NUMB. EVENTUALLY WHAT EVER WAS BEHIND MY EAR DRUM CAUSED IT TO RUPTURE REPEATEDLY. AND THE ITCHING I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE DEEP IN MY EAR TO MY THROAT DROVE ME INSANE. IT BECAME SO MUCH WORSE WHEN DRINKING ANY LIQUIDS THAT I ABOUT DEHYDRATE MYSELF TO AVOID DRINKING. WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THE BLOCKAGE IS ALSO IN MY THROAT, OR STARTED IN MY THROAT. IT HAS BEEN 2 1/2 YEARS AND I HAVE GOTTEN MINIMAL RELIEF. WHAT I DO KNOW IS WHEN I GET CLOSE TO FEELING LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING TO EXPLODE FROM EXPANDING I TAKE PREDNISONE. IT SEEMS TO BE TH ONLY THING THAT WORKS. BUT IT DOESN'T CLEAR IT UP COMPLETELY AND ONCE I AM DONE WITH THE MEDICATION IT COMES RIGHT BACK AGAIN. I RECENTLY HAD AN ENDISCOPE AND THEY BIOPSIED MY ESOPHAGUS BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT IT MIGHT BE CAUSED FROM ACID REFLUX AND FOUND CANDIDA A FORM OF YEAST INFECTION IN MY THROAT CAUSED FROM SO MANY ANTIBIOTICS TRYING TO HEAL MY INNER EAR INFECTION. I STARTED MEDS TO CLEAR THAT UP AND IT WAS HELPING BUT EVERYTHING WAS SO INFLAMED THE CANDIDA COULDN'T DRAIN. I GOT MORE PREDNISONE AND IT STARTED TO DRAIN. . UNFORTUNATELY IT IS ALL COMING BACK . I DON'T THINK THEY GAVE ME ENOUGH MEDS. TO CLEAR UP THE CANDIDA CONSIDERING I HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 1/2 YEARS. THE ITCHING IS NOT AS BAD AS IT WAS YET... BUT THE FACIAL PAIN IS UNBEARABLE.. WBC SHOWED HIGH NUMBERS FOR INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION. I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I CAN TAKE THIS. IF YOU FIND ANYTHING OUT I HOPE YOU SHARE. I HAVE SEEN 14 DR.S AND AM AT MY WITS END.

OMG ! One wonders what the heck is going on ? I'm so sorry to hear this and yes it does sound very similar. I have not had it as long as you my goodness. It all happened the end of October after having my teeth cleaned and before that I didn't really have much problems. I'm on antibotics and it isn't working. This is the second kind, nothing !!! My throat so far is ok. It's my eyes, ears, nose, head, and inside my mouth, my gums. Head hurts most of the time and even to walk I feel pressures in my head. It's costly and just can not afford it any more. So I can only understand your pain aas well, sorry. We need answers ! I'll keep you posted if I find out anything ! Please take care ! Hugs !

What did you find out? You told my story exactly. What was it? I keep coming across trigeminal neuralgia. The pain is debilitating. Coming and going and sometimes not going. I'm on painkillers for the pain in my joints but the th don't even touch it. I can't eat or drink without triggering it, my face feels numb and sensitive. Left side only. The roof of my mouth on the left side is the most sensitive trigger. Help

Hi,

I have had similar pain to what your describing for over 3 years now. Been to 6 neurologist and am currently going to one of the best at Rush University in downtown Chicago. It seems to puzzle him as well as he ignored me for the time begin with chronic pain syndrome and atypical facial pain. I have alse been to several ENT's, pain specialists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, dentists, chiropractors, rhuematologists, all of which do not have a concrete answer for me or solution. My pain goes away if I have a drink or two and somewhat if I take a tramadol or tapendentol…(sp?) Anyhow, have you gotten any answers or solutions so far? Has you pain continued? I'm eager to hear any info you may have as I'm pretty tired of this. I'm a wife and a mom of two young boys and I work full time as a Graphic Artist and do spend a lot of time at a computer. Thanks in advance, Erin

Sick for four years jaw pain, dizziness, flu like feeling sinus issue nausea, and extreme fatigue Had thousands of tests, saw four oral surgeon and four dentists My MD two head MRI. I kept researching finally hired Found dental cavitation expert who did a procedure to discover jaw bone infection. that did not show up on x-ray, CAT. panoramic and MRI so the next part was to just open up the extraction sites and look inside and there was serious infection
