I live in Ireland and we have hard water with lots of limescale. I have a shower head that filters the hard water and bring it on all trips with me. I also cover my arms and legs in baby oil before I shower and take an antihistamine an hour before. This also happens me with bath water and sometimes in the winter even when getting dressed in the morning the cold air gives me a reaction. I now only shower after being up and active for at least an hour as I find I need to have the circulation flowing in my legs first. Even when I do all of this things it still affects me sometimes. This came on about 4 years ago when I was 35.

I've had this issue. It only seems to happen if I've been sweating a lot and it's very hot out, consistently. I doesn't happen if I only sweat. Just after sweating and then a shower. After I shower I get unbearbly itchy, moreso if I didn't shower for a couple of days. I use the same shower products and have no itching issues during non-summer time.

I itch so bad that I wake my boyfriend up in the middle of the night, especially if it's a hot day with no air conditioning. Drink more water!!!!! Hydration has a lot to do with it. Ive found it seems to be worse when i drink pop, and not enough water. Also, antihistamines help aND for those times it itches so bad into hurts and you just can't make it stop, I use sarna lotion. It has menthol in it and it cools and stops the itching. Dermatologist wouldn't give me a straight answer but recommend the lotion.

I have had the same thing for a long time and I read and article about 4 years ago and they said what it was but I can remember now but the only cure was a taning bed. I started trying it and laid about a month then started going about once a week after that and didn't have anymore problem until I stoped laying.

I know this is a year late but i suffer from this in fact my whole family does it is inherited in my family. i noticed you say you drink a lot of sodas well it took me many years to figure it out. My mother seen many doctors with know answer. i figured it out when i started running to get in shape for the military at 18 yrs of age i am now 44. The problem with us was the food and drinks that contain acid. Trust me i have experimented many times. When i cut out acidic foods i never itch after a shower. When i drink sodas, orange juice, grapefruit juice any liquid or food thats high in acid i itch uncontrollable after a shower for about 15 to 20 minutes. When i cut out the acidic food and drinks i never itch after a shower and i have been doing this for 26 years now. Occasionally i will drink a soda and suffer through the aftermath but for the most part now i am itch free. Taking away all the soaps and detergents never worked. So cut out these types of foods for a week and see how you do.

I have this same issue. It started about 3 years ago, when I was 25. I would get extremely itchy on my arms and legs after I would shower- which was usually at night. It got so bad the only thing would help is for my husband to continuously rub my legs until I would fall asleep. The itch I get is like a sharp, pinprick itch and it's always worse on my legs than on my arms. I do not get any type of rash. At first, the dermatologist thought it was a fungal infection. Those meds didn't help (since it wasn't a fungal infection). I suffered through it for awhile and got relief from putting ice packs on my legs after showering until the itch went away. It got better for awhile but then recurred last year. I saw another dermatologist who thought it sounded like restless leg syndrome, which it isn't. I told my PCP about it (I had just moved to a different state and she wasn't aware of the issue). She immediately told me it was a form of uticaria, that typically occurs after working out or showering. She told me to take zyrtec every morning to prevent it. I found that zyrtec has been working for the itch that comes after showering, however I have started working out again (after a more than 3 year hiatus) and the itch is SO terrible after working out that the zyrtec isn't helping. So after I work out and shower, I have to put ice packs on my leg to calm them down. It takes about 15 minutes to get them to stop. It's a terribly uncomfortable 15 minutes and it makes me want to stop exercising, which I shouldn't but I am at my wit's end. As I said, for just the itch after showering the zyrtec seems to keep that under control but I need another solution for when I work out. Help!

I have the same issue, also my family has the issue of profuse sweating we will go thru an outfit of a t-shirt, and jeans in the matter of minutes, but also have the itching after a shower or swim. I am learning natural medicine and found this is a symptom of the thyroid even if the blood work is normal. I am going to start taking a small dose of kelp iodine to see if that will help, but I feel for each of you, itching will literally drive you insane! I will post if there is any difference using a couple drops of kelp iodine helps!

I'm 44 years old male. My itching started 7 years ago. It started in the crotch and then started to spread on my penis and anus. Later started spreading to various parts of the body. If I wash my clothes and dry them outdoors, and wear them - the itch starts where the cloth comes in contact with my skin. I iron all the clothes that I wear. We don't use dryers where I live.
So what I have is some kind of parasite infection. I have tried 14 doctors so far, but no result.
Most of you posting here seem to have a different root cause. I have been living almost a secluded life since I got this disease. The itching starts as soon as I sweat or after taking a shower. I use many different soaps for different parts of my body when I bathe so that the parasites don't spread around.
I have to keep my body really dry, so I use prickly heat powder or dusting powder. I keep a deodorant 24 hours by my side and spray it if it suddenly starts itching somewhere on my body. That kills the parasite on the skin surface and I get temporary relief. I also keep mustard oil beside me and rub it where it suddenly starts itching.
There are many other things that I do to cope with it. Living with this disease is very very difficult.
The only thing that keeps it a bit under control is wheatgrass. I take it in powder form. If I stop taking it, the itching starts spreading fast and increases in intensity.
I only take showers a few times a month in winter - once a week or so and after about every 4 days in summer. I stay indoors and go out only if I really have to.
If you have similar symptoms, keep in touch via this forum and maybe we can share our experiences and find out what helps.

I know what you're going through. It's utterly agonizing. I've had the same problem, off and on, for about 15 years. The only thing that solves it for me, and only in the short-term, is pouring practically boiling water on my legs. For me, this condition has no relation to dry skin, contact with different types of soaps, lotions, Etc. I found literally no solution other than extremely hot water.

I recently learnt a little more about it. Other than karmic reasons, the parasite thrives in an acidic environment in the body. I have started to work on making my body more alkaline. I have also tried Hulda Clarke's zapper with little results. Recently I tried a homeopathy medicine which seemed to help a little. I'll keep you posted if I see any substantial results. Instead of pouring hot water, try rubbing your legs with mustard oil. If that's not available, try oregano oil. I don't know where you live, but if you can find an Indian grocery store in your area, they would certainly be carrying mustard oil. I have also discovered that rubbing B-TEX Super ointment really hard also helps getting rid of itching in certain areas of my skin.

Hey all, I have this same problem; I have found that taking zantac and Zyrtec together once a day stops the itching. I know that zantac is a stomach pill, but this works, do a google search for zantac and Zyrtec for itching.

I have had then same issue, I would only get the intense prickly needle feelings on my scalp during high exercise and heat from the sun. I was prescribed the anti histamine Atarax( generic is called d hudroxyzine hcl). The itching completely dissapeared completely for 2 months or so.
Then randomly out of nowhere came the 10 minute itch you described and it happens anytime I come out the shower. Usually just the legs and sometimes my arms.

I'd suggest you try an anithistamine though because it worked for my scalp, I just may need to up my dose or the itch manifested to somewhere else and the problem was never solved don't go begin with.
