Hi i'm 17, male and last night i had a really bad spasm in my chest beneath my sternum, lasting 15-25 seconds (though its hard to say).

I have been quite ill with a fever recently and i had been in bed unable to sleep for 2-3 hours.

describing the spasm is difficult however it was very painful and i remember a tightening of all my muscles particularly my shoulders and head in a attempt to reduce the pain. I also remember not breathing or breathing n rasps.

Towards the end i did start to force my self to breath which was particularly painful however this did lead to the pain subsiding.

This is not the first time this has happened to me when i was younger i remember get similar unbearable pains in my chest however these would last only a few seconds. Also about a 5 months ago i had similar experience this was after physical activity though and i can't think of a linking factor...

I'm pretty worried as it was one of least enjoyable physical experiences of my life. (maybe this just suggests i have had quite a cushty life if thats the worst) but it was pretty bad.
Hi:
Could you have an old muscle injury that is now being aggravated because your body is really growing and changing now. That was my first thought. The pain sounds really bad, and for that reason, you need to have the problem diagnoses. It's in a serious area of your body, so you want to make sure that it isn't serious. You are young, and sometimes people have difficulty believing that you could have any serious health issues. However, you should keep asking questions and insist on answers until you get them. Good luck. Let us know.

If you are running a temperature along with severe pain you should go to the doctor or emergency room asap.
You could be having gall bladder, pancreas or liver problems. Maybe even an ulcer. Is the pain more on your right side than in the middle?
You didn't mention in what way you have been sick. The flu? You could also have an infection.
There is really no way to know for sure until it is checked by a doctor.
Please for your sake, if you are still running a temp, go to the doctor asap.
