Okay, so I came across this post not because I have this problem..but my husband does! Every month, same eye, same pain..only when I have my monthly. Strange? I find it rather odd considering he can almost predict when I start, without me telling him. He starts complaining of the pain and burning and redness..and then usually looks at me and jokingly tells me it is my fault. I feel bad because I know somehow it really is! Why does I happen to him though??

I get the same thing. It started about 8 years ago when I had an IUD. Twice a month, when I ovulate or am about to get my period my eyes to to itch. Then they get swollen. The lids almost get folds. I have been to every doctor under the sun. Some said contact dermatitis others said eczema. It isn't either it is hormones. I do find if I put cold compresses it gets better. Seems worse at night and morning.

Hello Ladies...... I was very surprised to read your comments. Many sounds exactly like mine. Two weeks before my menstruation, I get this burning red pain in my left eye. This has been going on for the past two years. I cannot seem to get a clear diagnostic from a Dr. They always seem to think that it is just allergy, very frustrating. Thank you to each of you for your shared information.

Same here! I'm 21 years old and I just noticed the symptoms just last year, since it was very strange that I got red eyes every month close to my monthly period, and I also have noticed this past few months that my cramps were getting worst than before! The pain really feels like hell especially while pooping. I feel like I'm laboring every time on my period.

Steep a black tea bag and place it on your eye for 15 - 20 mins. It helps me. Research it ! Green tea bags are good as well, but regular black tea bags work for me. I hope this helps

I see this post is old. But I'm experiencing the same thing. My upper and lower eyelids get extremely dry and swollen right before I start my period, to a point where my skin is flaking. I've been dealing with this for about 6 months now and I can't stand it. My actual eyeballs look fine. But the dryness around them makes my eyes very itchy. I've read some articles that say some women's bodies just react differently to the hormone changes when your body starts menstruating causing allergic reactions.

I too suffer from red painful eyes. My red spot usually appears on the outside corner of my left eye...sometimes right but mainly left. I get really bad headaches with it too. The pain runs on top of my check bone up to the side of my head. It took me a while to link it to my cycle. But when I did I stumbled across this forum. Glad I found others who suffer. It's such a dreadful pain. It will even wake me up from a dead sleep. I'm allergic to ibuprofen so I take Tylenol and have a steroid drop my optometrist prescribed. I've been dealing with the for 4-5 years now. Thanks.

I have had this for almost a year - went to my general doctor and 2 eye doctors; they say it is "inflammation" like arthritis maybe; I'm 42 and I keep wondering if it's an STD or something but the doctors say no and I tested clean; it's so annoying and I was relieved to find this post - I will try the B vitamins someone suggested

Please go and see an eye doctor who will prescribe an antibiotic, a cetrizine (anti allergic) drop and an eye drop to lubricate the eye because the eye veins get swollen and painful (something like sand inside the eye) due to pre menstrual syndrome.
