SVT is rarely life threatening, ask any Doctor. AFIB is much more serious, because of the risk of stroke. But it's self will not cause death. PVCs and PAcs happen in different parts of the heat than AFIB and generally do not happen together. Alcohol in moderation is good for the heart. No one here is saying binge drinking is good.

Your whole post is inaccurate, just filled with some buzz words you have heard.

I have the exact same thing everything you just described is what I have. Last night my heart was pounding at 128 bmp and I have hyperthyroid but I take my low pressor medicine right when I feel it beating crazy. It's so scary cause it's at night and I have anxiety as well. The doctors say I'm normal on ekg too and I have heart palpitations from time to time I was thinking it's still my thyroid problem but they say the levels are normal.. So why do I wake up with my heart pounding like that after drinking ? I'll have 6 beers and it happens sometimes it doesn't and I'm fine. They say give up drinking but I'd like to relax and have some chill time once a week at least . What's wrong with me :/

I apologize if someone else mentioned this already, but I think I may know what's going on. Look up tyramine sensitivity- it can cause heart effects after consumption- and then the tyramine content of alcoholic drinks. Only some contain large enough quantities to cause a reaction, but the biggest culprits are wine, beer, and whiskey- but not vodka (which is what I normally drink). Had some whiskey last night and holy cow do I feel awful now. Lesson learned!

I've had the exact same problem for about 5 years now. I am a 45 year old female and every time I drink (2-3 drinks white rum and diet rootbeer - no caffeine) about 5 hours later, I have really bad palpitations like 150 beats per minute. It lasts for about 5 hours and then suddenly just stops. I've tried the magnesium, I am on thyroid hormone for many years, I've tried staying super hydrated, nothing works. I've decided to stop drinking because it is no fun being up in the middle of the night when everyone else is sound to sleep. It has gotten worse within the last year. Scarier, stronger palpitations with a little bit of shortness of breath or dizziness. I stopped drinking caffeinated coffee and this made the palpitations less fast but I still get them and they are really scary. Drinking is not worth it for me to end up with congestive heart failure or a stroke or even death. I do have to say, I really do miss having a couple of drinks but it's better than waking up in the middle of the night worried if I'm going to live to see the next sunrise.

I have started having the same issues, I am 36, 3 years ago I had a stent put in a minor heart artery and the doctors said my heart was as healthy as anyone my age, I had lost a lot of weight, I was pretty overweight almost 230, over a couple years I dropped down to 165 and im 5 foot 11. I started enjoying wine and vodka with my girlfriend in the last year, initially it was very enjoyable, but as time grew, I drank more due to being more tolerant and the less emotional boost it I would get from it, I do take anxiety meds, have since the stent, but it is well controlled. in the last month I have had this on and off, sometimes waking to a heart rate of 125 when my beta blockers usually keep it 50-60 and my blood pressure is well under control. its not a panic attack but here are the things I think has happened to me, maybe usefull for others.

1. since drinking wine I have gone back up to 195, blood pressure is just over the recommended by a few points but does go up with heart rate.

2. drinking works like anxiety meds, so if you take them or not, you can become dependent on the alcohol and have withdrawals that bring up your general anxiety level without your brain even thinking about it in your sleep. once you wake, it can get worse if you let it cause you to panic.

3. dehydration of course

4. wine munchies, usually craving salty foods, this raises blood pressure and furthers dehydration.

5. wine dilates you blood vessels which can raise your heart rate. using a monitor after drinking results in odd readings for me, the initial beat after the meter lowers to the actual beat (difference between minor thump, and the actual hard thump where you are supposed to take the readings from) varies much more. the automatic machine has a hard time taking my blood pressure after a night of drinking.

6. you may actually be drinking more than you think, over time if you are drinking to get the happy feeling (not drunk) it will take more and last less causing you to want to drink more.

I love wine, but I just decided to stop drinking, its entertainment has reached a point where its so small compared to the ill after effects which were completely the opposite after starting to drink after 2 years not drinking. problem gone. now maybe I can get this wine and wine munchies weight back off me, I would like to be around 180. light drinking can turn into binge drinking without you even noticing it, I once drank 1.5 liters in an evening and never got drunk and felt fine until I woke up at 4 am.

basically, not to preach, but I don't think the benefits of a few drinks are really that great, probably just best to give it up, you eventually get yourself to a point where you feel better when drinking and worse after it wears off when your baseline would be close to that if you had been drinking, so whats the point, its just useless calories that make you want to binge eat which isn't good either.

I think a low dose aspirin a day is probably just the same if not better for you when they tell you a couple glasses is "good for you"

Was anyone hot during any of these episode I always found myself face down on something cold or in a walk in fridge or out in the cold feeling sick cause I didn't know I was dehydrated at the time , in my binge drinking days from 16 to 21 years of age. I could drink 20 to 40 beers 6 shots and a pack of cigarettes. I was experiencing all of what every one is describing. I'm still alive at age 33 thank GOD, Of course as you get older your body doesn't except all the torture you give it when your younger. I've always been overweight i do cardio now and go to the gym at least 3 to 4 X a week. still drink alot (under 20 beers and 3 to 4 shots) 4 shots is pushing it and maybe 6 beers less on a fun day. don't smoke didn't really do the smoke thing. Mix drinks f***s with your body as well as red wines and brown liquors, all that is sugar your body needs to process. When you drink liquor it's best to drink the clearest or the purest and White Wines too if that's all you can drink. This is less stressful for your body to get you back to normal. Sleep is the best thing you can do after drinking. Water and eating a lite meal. if you don't have fun anymore than you SHOULD just plane stop drinking all together. I know it's hard to hear I would hate for someone to tell me this, but I love to drink and sometimes you just need to slow it down. As you get older and if this is not what you want to hear then no one will ever have the right answer for you. Everyones doctor said everything is good. To much drink can cause you to have an inlarged heart and everyone's medical history seems to sound normal and everyone is different, Of course if you over analyze everything like I do can cause a panic attack adds to more stress to the body. If you died in your sleep after a good time would you be happy. At least you weren't aware of what was going on. So when you wake up and your heart is pounding. Go pee drink water turn on the fan and just go back to sleep. Don't drink and drive!

I do notice that mine lasts all day a night after drinking. I was wondering if I was the only one that has it last all day because most people have said it is found within a few hours. Mine never starts until 10:00 a night after drinking.

I've been following this thread and posted my experiences in it for over a year now as I've been having the same issues. So I finally found what worked for me. This appears to be mostly stress related in my case. After taking an SSRI (lexapro) for about 6 months and some counseling I was able to shed most of my daily anxiety and I tried drinking again.

I am no longer having these waking up in the middle of the night after even just 1 drink heart pounding experiences anymore, after nearly 6 years! Just fyi, alcohol and SSRIs basically cancel themselves out because they work on the same chemicals in the brain. If I have more than 2 drinks, or drink a couple days in a row I sometimes feel kinda sick for a couple days as it forces a bit of withdrawal from the med. This is not medical advice, and I do not suggest mixing any medications with alcohol.

Tachycardia actually leads to lower blood pressure as the diastolic phase is not long enough to sustain an adequate pressure....

Same condition Same scare as everyone else. What really seems to help me is "G2". The lighter less sugar version of Gatoraide. Drink tons of it And then drink more. If dehydration is a component, as suspected, this will help relieve the symptoms

When your body needs blood glucose it gets it from the liver. But when you are drinking alcohol the liver is working instead to process that. So your blood sugar drops. You can have nausea, sweating and rapid heart rate. Simply eat some sugar. I have glucose tablets by my bed. In a few minutes you will be fine
