Age, weight, hydration or there lack of plays a factor along a host of various other things... Most md’s can’t be bothered to figure or take the time to see was going on... and that’s understandable ..... because this is alcohol induced. If you stop drinking the problem goes away .
So this all has to do with body and the way it interacts with alcohol… And the side effects.
Hydration along with food intake prior to alcohol consumption will help… But there is more to this

Has anyone else noticed the increase happening almost immediately (less than 30 minutes) after starting to drink?

You don't need to drink every day you don't need too want it so much you could actually walk out on your life?
Want to leave your own head so much from pre and then post partim depression that I'm still wondering if I'm good enough cos my mother never was and am I?

From one study in Germany:
Conclusions
Acute alcohol consumption is associated with cardiac arrhythmias and sinus tachycardia in particular. This partly reflects autonomic imbalance as assessed by significantly reduced respiratory sinus arrhythmia. Such imbalance might lead to sympathetically triggered atrial fibrillation resembling the holiday heart syndrome.

I am 37 and have been an occasional wine drinker for 7 years. A couple months ago out of the blue my heart rate increased HOURS AFTER my glass(s) of wine. (I only drink wine)
It started with one episode. Then I would have some wine again with no episode. Now each time I try to have wine this heart rate increase happens. It’s not super high but just hovers around 80-100 bpm resting. I am not having huge amounts of alcohol. We are talking one 5 ounce glass of wine will do this. What is this?? Is that it? I can never have wine again!!

The other group is like myself: only having 1 or 2 drinks in the evening (6pm ish) will prevent me from being able to get to sleep at 10/11pm. Like others, this is a NEW problem that I've never experienced before. Many people here are bummed that they can't drink at all now, but MY question is how do you feel when you have a drink in the afternoon? I never notice a problem with a drink or two at that time.

I have not read all of these posts but a good amount. I'm 39 , athletic as well, gym 3 days a week plus a very physical job.
I noticed it 6-8 years ago. I did use to drink heavily 20s-early 30s , i just has a hihj tolerance. I started waking up at 2 am on the dot. I mean every time 2am! Heart pounding fast, hot...bp is cranking.
I had cut back to 2 days a week, really all my work schedule will allow anyway, still get it in a mild form after 1 or two drinks.
It is not a generic thing, I have friends, neighbors much older who party through the whole weekend and alcohol does not do this to them. They wake up late and have a headache.
I have noticed as me and my wife vacation and cruise a lot, sometimes twice a year; I drink at nights while on vacation, a lot too, and I do not have the issues . It is weird. Like all the stress of things you need to do or surrounding of your home cause anxiety along with the alcohol consumption.
There is no certain type, I use to drink all beer and thought it was my body dealing with carbs/ sugar. Quit beer almost all together for 5 months and drink whiskey and ginger ale , same thing happens. Only happens when I sleep. Like I said , out of a panic , wake up 2 am. Thoughts racing on how many drinks I had, conversations you had with friends while drinking ect.... sucks
Had a friend tell me that bp meds fix this issue but have not get on any as I do border pre hypertension.
I take 500 mg of magnesium through the week .
Every one should realize that sooooo many people have this and we are not alone so do not fret the worst.
I also have IBS for years as well.
