I had very similar symptoms to my left side ribs.
Turned out its just that i have some problems with my ribs/chest, back and general posture. I have some hypermobility, that causes these problems in the first place.
I had a surgery to my right shoulder. After that I used too much left hand and had to carry my right hand with a sling. Made my body twist just a little and lean to left. After this the symptoms got so bad that I went to a doctor, who could not really tell what was wrong, but assumed it had to do something with my posture changing after the surgery. Had a physiotherapist check me and tell me that it actually was the case.
I was told that if not taken care of, these problems can lead to other more severe problems as the body reacts to the pain and pressure. I think one of the possibilities if this was not taken care was tietze syndrome (I suggest you look it up from wikipedia). Basically the problems stays the same, but the pain can get intolerable after time, to the point where even just breathing can hurt, and it gets harder to deal with.
My symptoms where a feeling of pressure, like a bubble, under my left side ribs. Sometimes I could feel something soft moving where my ribs end, like the bubble would have moved little right from under my ribs when I inhaled and back under when my ribcage squeezed back. A little pain sometimes, but mostly just the feeling of pressure. Lying straight would make the feeling ease a bit, but not go away. The feeling usually started without any obvious reason and stopped the same way. Sometimes a week went by without anything.
I'm athletic, young, nonsmoking and use very little alcohol. I'm not overweight even my diet is not too healthy all the time.
So don't be afraid, it CAN be something as little as this. Its easy to deal with (stretching etc.), if you act soon enough for the pain not to get too bad. If you do believe this could be the issue with you, I suggest you just get someone with a good understanding of anatomy to check you, and ask if this could be the case.

I also have the muscle tension in between my shoulder blades and it's just on the right side so I think it's related. I've had this muscle tension for a long time already, maybe two or three years but it seems worse lately. I'm completely off caffeine and sugar now and eating a very healthy diet so I can't figure out why I have this muscle tension problem. Could it possibly be unrelated, maybe be repetitive stress disorder related to working at a computer and "driving" a mouse all day with my right hand?
I haven't been to see any doctor about this problem. I don't think my family doctor wouldn't be much help anyway.
I too am wondering what all the other posters have found out. I suspect most of them are still living with this condition off and on or else it has went away.
I wonder if it might be a gallstone problem. However, I really don't ever have pain with it. I guess I did have pain once or twice recently but it wasn't very bad and it wasn't after eating fatty foods either. I actually thought maybe it was a problem with my intestines but now I'm starting to think that it probably isn't.

Hi just thought I would check in again. I am no futher with finding an answer to this problem but I dont think it can be anything serious. My doctor has said that she thinks its muscular. I, on the other hand, think its got something to do with the gallstone. I have 1 large one which I will, at one point, have removed. I am scared stiff of hospitals so I will have to really feel that its time to do something about it before I go in.
I have no pain but still feel it pushing under my right rib. Sometimes it feels bigger than others. All my blood tests were clear (I have them done regularly as I have diabetes), so I am just leaving well alone for now. Hope everyone else is OK.

I am in the same boat as all of you. I have had my gallbladder removed about 3 years ago. The symptons stop up until about 4 months ago. I feel like there is a fist up under my right rib cage. I have gained weight over the last year as well. My doctor thinks its a pulled muscle, I'm not with him on that. This was the reason they took my gallbladder in the first place. Now what, I need a new answer.
Yes I know how you feel. I have not had my gall stone out yet. It is just one big one not a lot of little ones. I just dont understand what this could be but it seems that there an awful lot of us so whatever it is quite common. I have decided not to worry about it at the moment, I dont get pain just the feeling of a lump or something pushing up under my ribs. Why always the right side? I too need to loose some weight so may be it is fatty tissue???
