Many years ago, I had this problem and I had tried everything. My fingers were SO sore and I had a new baby too! My mother suggested taking 6-8 tablets of Brewer's yeast daily. I did this, and the problem went away.

That's what I've been doing too. Takes a couple of days but works. The actual healing of the finger tip takes longer, a couple of weeks at least but no pain while waiting.

I'm in the sun almost everyday of the year and mine do it. This started after I got older. I'm in my late fifties now. Been going on since about fifty or thereabouts. I also take a vitamin supplement, along with vitamin C, D, and B, and omega 3,6 & 9 and also take an amino acid shake and enzymes. This along with eating pretty healthy. No drinking, drugging or smoking although I inhale a fair amount of exhaust fumes from doing engine repair. I also handle a fair amount of chemicals.

believe it or not, its a fungal issue. Apply a small 'dot' of anti-fungal (foot) cream to the cracks several times a day (it soaks right in), and the cracks will heal in a day or two.

I have had the issue of skin splitting at the sides of my fingernails near the finger tips. I work in a supermarket
produce department where my hands can be wet. At the same time I am handling a lot of cardboard boxes which drys outs my skin. I thought this was the root of the problem. It only brought about this situation. I went to my doctor who said it was allergy/allergic reaction. He wrote an RX for Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream which
took care of the issue. I just monitor it as an allergy issue and are more careful with my hands at work.

I used to suffer dreadfully from cracked skin on the tips of my nails. I consulted my GP who prescribed cream for skin fissures and moisturizer often, but these made no difference. I eventually found that when I had my nails gel-shellac coated, the cracks ceased. I changed hospitals and the infection control nurse told me the "artificial nails" had to go. The gel isn't an artificial acrylic nail, but she wasn't about to concede on a technicality and I had to remove the gel varnish. The painful cracks returned almost immediately and were an ongoing source of pain so I've resumed having my nails re-coated regularly with the gel-shellac varnish, and I haven't had a problem since. I've been free of painful thumb splits now for more than two years. It's bliss!

I have suffered the same problem for 4 years and tried everything, Bag balm or other such heavy creams make it worse. But I have found a temporary cure that works in 24 hours. 3M and other medical companies make 'Hydrocolloid Sterile Dressing' which is like an artificial skin. I buy a 3.5"X3.5" square and cut into 6 pieces, I further clip the corners so I can wrap my finger tip completely, you have to experiment to get the right shape. If you can keep it on for 24 hours to 36 hours the split will heal and usually be good for a week or two in the worst cold dry temp. Sometimes it will be cured for several months. It is the only think that works. Although Bandaid has a blister finger tip product that works well but they come off too easily.

I have the same thing, severe peeling skin, hard, dry skin, reduced sensitivity in those areas, inner first finger joints, finger tips, four fingers and one thumb, not all fingers affected (?yet?). Am very sure it has nothing to do with Raynaud's; circulation is good, fingers are warm, and they bleed profusely when they split (which is almost every time I grip anything or now, typing). I have tried every soap in the book, including homemade, pure, pure, purist. I moisturize, again, the pure stuff, throughout the day, I wear cotton gloves during the day and at night with more moisturizer. I am on heart medication, norvasc and ASA and also on one of those new cholesterol drugs (not a statin). The pain is not excruciating but very irritating and more importantly I worry about infection especially with all those anti-biotic resistant bugs out there. In the past I used to use hydrocortisone cream both OTC and Rx strength but stopped using that about 6 months ago because it didn't seem to help and I was worried it might be thinning the skin or causing rebound effect. Now just trying moisturizer alone, gloves. I am not in a profession that requires excessive handwashing; just a retiree who washes hands in the kitchen and after toileting, so not excessive. I do have a ton of (animal protein based) allergies but no allergist anywhere remotely close to where I live and no animals in my house (although I live in a townhouse and neighbours all have animals). At this point I have given up seeking a cure; maintenance is all I can hope for I guess.

I have this condition again and had it about 4 years ago which I managed to clear up. I believe it is a yeast infection that is being chased out of the body (exits through your extremities) - cut out bread, beer/lager and go buy Acidophilus tabs from the health store - take 3 a day with a couple of dessert spoons of plain Greek yoghurt and lots of fresh, filtered water or mineral water and your cut flora will get back to normal, your finger tips soon afterwards - it is just an imbalance in your gut and a few weeks of 'cleaning up' should get your fingers back to normal.

Mine crack at the top of the finger and nail. I have been going to a rheumatologist and they have diagnosed me with Reynauds Phenomenon a poor circulation problem. Right now I am just going through the pain. My fingers stay cold and turn purple especially in the cold weather. Dr. Told me to make sure I wear gloves when outside in the cold.

Try good ole bag balm. I use it on my excessively dry finger tips and feet. Lather a thick coat on and put on plastic gloves/ socks wear over night. and wipe off use regularly until you see improvement. Then use as you like:)
