I experience dry cracked skin only on my thumbs have tried so many topicals but I believe I have figured out the cause...gluten!! I try to eat gluten free since this revelation however sometimes I eat something with gluten and a day or two later my fingers get worse. Not saying this is def the cause but I cannot rule it out. Hope this helps someone.

I have the same problem and have had for the past 5 years. The doctors keep telling me it is eczema - it is not eczema. Last year, due to a series of problems, I took three rounds of prednisone packs. The problem disappeared for 6 months and now it is back. I don't want to keep taking steroids because I gain weight. Have an appointment with another specialist. Armed with the cure from last year, I hope he can suggest a treatment. I hate this problem.

This is very strange as I too am experiencing some of the same symptoms, every fingertip is dry and sore and they feel really right. They are not peeling but do have that dried out prune look on occasion as well. I am a nurse too and this seems to have been since I started working in clinic rooms so I thought it may be related to that. I Have been on holiday for a week however and the symptoms have persisted. If you get anywhere with it, let me know as sadly no creams working for me also

Raynaud's Syndrome. You need to see a rheumatologist not a dermatologist

After I began a new job the skinat the corners and tips of my thumb and fingers began to dry, become hard and split. It is very painful but no blood. For me it is the result of cheap soaps and cleaning products with hourly repetative use. I wipe down glass, clean surfaces and wash my hands hourly. After six days the condition began. Age and consistency probably plays a factor as well because I have had cleaning work in the past without trouble but I am thirty eight now and the weather just turned cold. Hope this helps.

My fingers are split open, it hurts like crazy. I've been taking over the counter pain meds, but they don't help. What should I do?
