I'm not sure if there's something caught in my throat or not. It feels like it, this sensation started immediately while eating a candy bar, I don't know if I ate a wrapper piece or what, but that's when it started.

I decided to wait on it for a few days before rushing to a doctor, I'm usually very very busy but it hasn't been going away and the discomfort is pretty much constant, the only slight breaks I get is that it sometimes feels less intense when I'm eating, almost like it soothes it. It's very isolated in one spot, a tickling under the Adam's apple. T

here's no soreness just this awful tickle, and pressing sensation, its more pronounced when I lean forward, and I do find myself gagging and trying to cough it out, however there really isn't much coughing without being self-induced. More just gagging, cause of the pressing sensation.

I live in New York which sucks for getting great medical attention. It's hard to get any serious attention from an ER when the other guys in the waiting room have bullet wounds.

I suppose is this the kind of thing I need to suffer it out and make an appointment with a regular doctor? Or do you go to an ENT? I don't know, I just want get this fixed asap its mainly just ridiculously uncomfortable.

I have the same sensation, have had it since May 2005. I have had every imaginable test, scan, etc. I even had my tonsils out which only led to nerve damage which I now suffer with daily.

I find acupuncture helps some. MDs say it might be glossophylangial neurapathy. I am seeing a neuro-surgeon in a couple of weeks. Also get some relief from meds prescribed by a neurologist.

Hope this is helpful. If you get additonal info/help, please forward. There are days when I think I just cannot go on with this "thing" caught in my throat but then realize I have to other options but to live with it right now.

I am also having the same problems. I have a tickling feeling. It feels like something is attached to my throat around the base of the neck. I thought mabe a piece of food was stuck, but now I do not think it could possibly be that. When I eat it almost magically goes away, but within minutes comes back. It makes me want to gag and I try coughing it up, but their in no use, it just stays their. I do feel it move when I try coughing it up though, almost like a string is dangling in my throat. I feel better that it must be a common problem, but I am worried that no one seems to know what it is. the only thing I found in the medical websites that seems to be a possibility is even scarier. Apparently haveing round worms can cause this and they attach themselves sometimes in the throat. I have also been having upset stomach and digestive problems. Has anyone else had any of this? I am going to the doctor Sunday and will write back what happens.

I have had this same feeling in my throat for 3 years almost. It drives me insane and exactly as described by others it's almost like a string is dangling in my throat. It all started for me when I thought I swallowed a portion of a toothpick. I forced myself to throw up immediately by jamming a pencil as deep in my throat as I can go. Ever since then I have had this. Also it gets worse when I smoke and almost goes away while I'm eating but come back right after. I think it's caused by the dangling thing in the top of our mouths touching our eppiglotis when it standing up that's why eating makes it go away. I have done many things to myself to figure our whatever I can about this. I have half swallowed pieces of meat which also seem to make it go away. I have thought long and hard about trimming the dangling thing in the roof of my mouth. I just don't know what to do it drives me crazy. My old pediatrician put me on prilosec and said was linked to my indegestion but I think he is wrong and the prilosec did nothing for it.

i bet most of you have what are called tonsiloliths, they are these putrid smelling chunks of somthing that form in the back of the throat , they range in size from a grain of sand/salt to the size of the bigger nerds candy, some people call them throat nerds, they are pretty gross, don't mash em or even touch them, they stink. gargle regularly and they'll go away , i've read there are things you can do to prevent them, like change your diet , but they are for the most part normal, the sensation of having something stuck in the back of your throat like food is probably this, it's probably that they are big enough for you to feel them back there and they are probably loosening too. like i said , gargle, mouth wash or warm saltwater, you can do that sucking motion like when your sick and have phleghm, to kinda pull the out . like i said it's normal, everyone gets them, but they are gross and do stink. hope this helps .good luck

Many thanks to the guest above who mentioned tonsiloiths. I've been having this occur just often enough to be annoying, that uncomfortable feeling of having something caught in the back of the throat, and then every now and then when showering but most often after brushing, coughing up a soft, rubbery to touch pale lump which smells rather bad. Then if you're morbidly curious you mush it apart an even more odious odor is emitted, this might possibly be what bile smells like.
Well now that I know what it's actually called I can do some more targetted research on it, rather than just blindly fumble around things pertaining to throat discomforts.

people can get hairballs if they have cats so that can be one reason why gagging months on in non stop or major stress in life can causee to gagg too it sounds weird but true my doctor is a fool in woodburn she thinks its normal i rather be my own doctor..

Yes, It is most iekly tonsilothis. I actually got so obsessed with my own problem and finally found a doctor who knew what I was talking about. I went to an ear nose and throat Dr. He said if you suffer from it now, you will suffer with it forever. It won't kill you or hurt you, just drive you insane. So, per his suggestion I got my tonsils out. 2 years later the sensation is back! I know its not the same thing because I don't have tonsils for the stones to build up behind...strange!

I'm sorry alot of you have the tickling sensation so do I but the original poster was asking for help or atleast an answer to his or her problem. I come into these boards and others trying to get answers and all I get is people with the chronic OMG i have that to! forgive me if I seem abit mean but why come to these boards if nobody has a clue whats causing the problem? I was outside when mine started I might have got a bug down my throat or before I went outside I was rinsing my mouth with salt water I might have used to much salt and irritated the back of my throat. Sure its driving me crazy even drank some hot tea with honey it went down but the tickles still there. Its a good thing I have a CT tomorrow maybe if I did get something stuck back there they can see it if not I will go back to my Gastro dr and ask for another endoscopy test.

I knew I was allergic to cats for some years. I also have this allergy for a few months of Spring every year, having lots and lots of congestion in my chest, throat, and sinuses. I had to foster 3 orphan kitties back in September 2010, and now I have this feeling that a chunk of cat hair is stuck in my chest or throat, causing me to gag even when I drink water. I have to drink or chew down very slowly to prevent choking. I have to clear the congestion by coughing, or staying hours in washroom, which is gross and annoying. The good thing is that the congestion is clear. I even had an x-ray and it didn't show anything.

My two allergy problems are now combined and have made my life miserable. I can't get rid of the kittens cause they think I am their mommy. So pls don't advice that. Just wanted to share my experience with you guys.

I read your comments regarding the feeling of something struck on your throat. I have exactly the same issue like you. I ate fish and i think there is a small fishbone struck on my throat bu it has been removed. I went to 3 different ENT doctors but they say nothing is there, but I can feel that there is something and it's been 3 weeks now. I am really worried.
