I completely know what you are going through. It took me months to get to Doctor thinking it would go away with home remedies and antibiotics. 4 doctors said everything was fine. Still gave me meds for BV including boric acid suppositories. 3 years later it magically disappeared. Worst 3 years of my life. My social life went downhill, I was paranoid and depressed bc I had to work and be around people with this horrible anxiety about my smell. It wasn't all in my head. But it's not like you can ask people if you smell bad!!! Did everything - garlic, apple cider, baking soda, ate all right foods, antibiotics, cotton underwear, sleeping naked def helped air it out (sorry I know that sounds weird). Doctor said buy dove sensitive or basis soap, don't use cotonelle wipes, and buy charmin regular toilet paper (no aloe or ripple tp).
I recently tried again with the luvena probiotic insert foam at night and then 2 weeks ago I had a thick white discharge when peeing and haven't had any odor since. It's like the weight of the world is off my shoulders. I really hope it never comes back.
So my advice is go balls to the wall with getting every test known to medical science including urinalysis and a 30 day detox and every food that's good for you. Air it out, no douching ever and try to nip it in the bud early. I wish you best of luck. I understand you never had to do this before but just do the work and pray for your body to get set right!

I have had the same problem mainly after my period. For me it's bv. I got treated for bv. Even though douching is not good for you I do it after my period and insert a Rephresh. Seems to help since my doctor can't figure out how to prevent it.

Have you tried alkalizimg your blood? That means no meat, no dairy, no coffee, no alcohol, and no sugar. That would ideally kill the infection.

I'm older but noticed that I too have that odor. I thought it was an infection and went to the dr and he said I had an infection and gave me Cipro. I also had some bleeding. Do not use store bought douches. It upsets the ph balance of the vagina, making the infection worse in most cases. Douche with a homeade solution consisting 50% water, 50% hydrogen peroxide daily for about 5 days. This should balance your ph levels, curing the infection and horrible smell.
