Hi. I’ve been having PF for the past 2 and a half years. After exhausting all the conservative treatments I’d been seriously thinking about surgery. In order to convince myself that surgery is good thing to do, I went to another foot specialist to get his opinion. He examined my feet and told me that a gastroc slide would be more beneficial to me than a PF since my calf was really tight. SO, I had 3 choices: another session of ESWT, PF release or Gastroc release. Anyway, as I found PF release too risky I decided to have a gastroc release and went ahead and did it for both of my legs. I had it two weeks age and have been in a wheel chair ever since. To my very pleasant surprise the day after the surgery my heel pain went significantly down. So far, I have been only on antibiotics and not on any pain killer. Now, my surgeon said that the downside of gastroc slide is that I will feel weak in my calf for a few months but that it will get better in time. Can you please give your opinion on this. How log will I have to stay in wheel chair?? I would appreciate your comments.

Well, the good thing is that the procedure was successful. As for the strength I can tell you that you will be a week maybe even next 3-4 months. But, exercises should help you strengthen. Also, I think that you will need to stay some 10 days more in the wheel chair – then you’ll prabably be sent to some sort of physical therapy. I truly hope your recovery and your outcome will be excellent.
