I put bananas in my smoothie every morning and have no pain, I eat banana bread and have no pain, I eat even so much as half a raw banana on it's own and I'm in excruciating pain. I didn't realize it was the bananas causing my pain until I sliced a whole one up and had it with cereal, within 10 mins of consumption I became doubled over with intense pain just below my ribs on the left side and to the right of my belly button. What gives?

This happened to me earlier today...I ate a banana then shortly after I had very, very bad pain in my chest and abdomen. I found that the pain went away after about 1-2 hours. I think having a hot herbal tea then using the bathroom helped. Even though the worst of the pain is gone I still feel nauseous.

Bananas contain some resistent starch (if green banana) and protopectine instead of pectin (which breaks down starch and make it easy for body to digest), also some proteins in green banana inhibit activity of amylase (starch breaking enzyme in humans). All those make it very hard for body to digest it and cause stomach pain. Also some allergies such as latex allergy exist which might cause stomach aches as in your condition.

I am hypersensitive to latex and have severe allergies to ragweed. Every time I eat a banana, abandoned or melon I am doubled over in pain. The GI docs could not figure out the problem but now I see the connection between my latex allergy and my GI track.

I liked what you said, do you think it's possible that any organs like liver or pancreas may have a problem in order to have bananas react this way?

Me too!!! I'm allergic to latex which may be a reason. Did you find out why you get stomach pains after?

Just eaten one now myself and it's like it sticks to your esophagus and won't shift. I don't think they are that good for you, if they cause cramps in the guts. All i have is indigestion but it's annoying.
