What does glycemic index is all about? My friend is diabetic and he just explained me that he use glycemic index to prepare healthy meals. He also told me that it is not simple sugar that make blood glucose rise more rapidly than some complex carbohydrates do. I just realized that I am in total dark with diabetes.

The glycemic index ranks foods on how they affect our blood glucose levels and measures how much blood glucose increases in the two or three hours after eating. However glycemic index value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into glucose, it doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in specific food.
