I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Thursday due to chronic diarrhea. An the diagnosis was Colitis. They took biopsies so it can be confirmed 100%. I've been reading about Colitis and its says that the symptoms come and go like going into remission. But I've had my symptoms for over six months and not once have my symptoms gone and then come back again (remission) its everyday. Could they have made a wrong diagnosis??

Hi DonnaM2,

You got your diagnosis.  It is correct and with medication you will get remission and not until then.  You will have to go on medication at some point to control it.  Tests are not wrong - be glad you got a diagnosis some people take years to get one.  Remember my story?  It took years to get a diagnosis, be glad your health can improve now instead of suffering longer.

Get informed but don't doubt.

So I won't go into remission till I start taking medication? Yeah I very grateful I have been seen to quickly an diagnosed I just didn't understand the remission part. I just hope to god it goes. All I do is worry and my parents think I'm depressed because I all do is cry.
They said I'd receive a letter for a follow up which will probably be next week - will they talk about the biopsies they took and medication?
I really appreciate your help, thank you!

Yes, they will talk to you about that. Make sure you make a list yourself of questions you have including the remission part - that is why doctors are there to answer questions and give diagnosis, which they have. I don't know what kinds of meds you will get but one is probably going to be a prednisone type steriod for awhile.

Just relax your health is going to get so much better soon. Count yourself blessed.

Hi Donna, frustrating isn't it? It can be very difficult and a long time before they get the exact diagnosis. Chrons and Colitis are kind of in the same area, you will get remission but with medication and a healthy diet - when i say healthy, very healthy. My sister-in-law cannot have any caffeine, wine amongst a lot of other things she has noticed that flares up after she has eaten something.

A little word of advice for you and to make it easier for you. Start a food diary of absolutely everything you have eaten so that you too can start eliminating foods that seem to bother you more than others.

Good luck and you are on the road to recovery!
