Ive got a great mountain bike from my parents for birthday. I like it so much and I ride it every day. But there is a problem. Ive noticed that Im having hand and finger problems. I have this unpleasant ache between my thumb and index finger. Can you tell me why this is so and how to stop it? I dont wear any particular equipment other than a cycle helmet.

Ive had the same problems! I also get blisters on both hands occasionally. But I solved that problem with a pair of gloves for cycling. As far as I know, this pain can be the result of the same hand position for a long time. Try to pay attention also whether you put too much weight on your hands while leaning forward, because that can be a problem. Or youre maybe gripping handlebars very tightly. Handlebars should be covered with a softer fabric, because when theyre too firm that can cause both blisters and the pain youre talking about. I know that racing cycles have different handlebars which are slimmer, as I recall and theyre in a different position than those on the mountain bike, so maybe you can attach some extensions resembling those handlebars.
