I had some shady housemates at one time, and until I realized that, I couldn't figure out how my credit cards kept getting stolen! Fortunately, the CC company doesn't hold you liable for the charges made, so I never had to pay for the money they spent.
The bastards used my card going to gas stations and such, places where you swipe the card and never have to talk to a human being.
Sadly, I am also guilty of leaving my ATM card at a store. I went to the cigar shop late one night and left it there and only realized it when I tried to use it the next day. Fortunately, they were open on Christmas Eve and I was able to get it back; didn't have to report it missing.
