Hi I'm Valorie and im 14. i had my gallbladder removed on wednesday May 11, 2011 for a same day surgery. I ended up staying in the hospital for two more nights. For the first couple days i was very nausiated after I ate or drank, and throughout the day. It was painful and misrable. It went away for a couple of days and I was able to eat somewhat normal. But then the horror came back. I would gag from putting anything in my mouth. I ate a bite of banana and a drink of water and threw it up then I was scared to eat any more. I stuck to water but even that made me nausiated. I began throwing up stomache acids and had to go to the E.R. for help. They gave me nausia meds but im worried this will go on for a long time. I just want to feel normal again. What foods should I avoid and what foods should I go for?? Will the nausia and dizzyness last forever?? im a really nervious girl. Someone please give me as much advice and knowledge you can. I'd greatly appreitate it:)

Hi Valorie, I know how awful it can be when you don't get the right instructions after this type of surgery (my was stomach, but I had the same problem with nausea with whatever I ate). These problems won't last forever, luckily, but it will take some time and being careful about what you eat for things to get back to normal. So, since its been only 8 days since the surgery it's best to avoid fresh fruit and vegetables for now, also dairy products and whole milk. Since there is problem with stomach acid also, avoid foods that contain tomato, lemon or strong spices. You have to keep your portions small, but you can eat them more often. Mashed potatoes are pretty safe to eat, some lean chicken meat also. You should avoid fats, I hope they told you at least that. So, some steamed vegetables, maybe oatmeal or soft rice with a piece of lean meat. Keep me updated on how are you doing, if I find out something else that might work, I'll let you know.

Thank you so much. They didnt really explain to me what i should do they said eat jello?? um gross. Thats not quite my favorite food. I just woke up and im not sure what to eat for breakfast that wont make me feel sick. I guess a bagel might work. Idk. Im so hungry! The docters didnt want me to eat much yesterday. I've been surviving on saltines, water, and jello. I weigh like 107 normally, but ive lost 7-10lbs from all this. Im pretty small so i dont have much weight to lose. I don't wanna lose anymore, because thatll be just unhealthy. Im ready to eat some real food, and ready to gain back some weight.  I took a nausia tablet at 6, but who knows how the day will turn out. I hope I don't feel that anymore but im sure i will. I did some research and most people with my situation said it can take six months?! That sounds misrable but i dont know how bad that'll be. I'll keep you posted. Thank you again:)

Bagel should be ok, it doesn't have anything to irritate and I know - they didn't let me eat anything for three days, so... I hate soups ever since.
