I don't normally comment on discussions, but felt compelled to since I know how "scary" or unnerving these symptoms are. I am actually experiencing them to a slight degree as I write this. Mine was the skip in my pulse and the pulse immediately following the skip seemed abnormally "hard". With that came a sensation to want to cough and in the more noticeable events could actually sort of feel it in my throat as a subtle chokey feeling. These were not consistent and were not detected on EKG. I do have HBP and am taking Levothyroxin (sp?) for my underactive thyroid. My pulse rate always seemed a bit high, even at rest - in the 90's. My family dr. prescribed 50mg of Toprol. Once on it for about a month, the symptoms stopped. They have just recently returned but are only slight. I have been under increased stress lately and I too could stand to lose some weight. Was never diagnosed with a specific condition though.
Its reassuring to hear others experience this because it was hard to explain to people and then when tests turned nothing up it was nothing to go on but what I knew I was feeling - didn't matter what the testing equipment said. If you are experiencing this, maybe this information gives you a little reassurance that you aren't alone and if your case is similar to mine, it appears it can be treated with medications. Toprol as I understand it is a drug that cardiologists like because it works well. It supposedly acts a bit of a bp med and also slows down the heart.

I have the same thing... I've seen the Cardiologist on several occasions now. The first said I had a murmur with an extra beat. You could hear the extra beat when you feed back the monitor to the 800 number. It used to happen only when i was at rest. I finally saw a second cardiologist because the symptoms got worse. He did the same tests as the previous doctor. He disagreed fully with the first guy and said "you're not active enough" and just because i was "thin" didn't make me "healthy". Absolutely no help, but I took his lazy advice into consideration. I started the gym 4 times a week. Well, i started having palpitations during my work outs. Now i've progressed into a cough with the palpitations. This is incredibly frustrating, as you all know. It all started in my early 20s. Im curious as to if it's a hormone thing.

I have the same symptoms. Tonight I thought I'd choke to death after an episode. The first time it happened I was 23 woke me from a dead sleep gasping and skipping heart then I vomited before EMT arrived. EKG at ER was normal thus beginning the cycle of the your nuts doctors. I'm freaked out because my grandfather, father, and 1st cousin all passed away from heart attacks at a young age. I need an answer From a good doctor. I'm not stressed and drink decaf coffee.

I just got out of the hospital. I have been having this for over a week. I went to the ER after feeling faint during a walk. I initially wrote-off the flutter and cough with GERD since my father has it. My fiancee convinced me to go to the ER. So...
- I was having PVCs continously and as many as 20+ in a row at a time... very unnerving. The feeling ranges from a fluttery feeling, to a squooshy, to a skip and boom.
- It's accompanied by a cough, almost like not getting enough oxygen for a moment... you know when you open a soda and breathe in the Carbon Dioxide by accident and cough... like that.
- There appears to be no particular trigger.
- had the following tests: full blood workup (all electrolytes, enzymes, and other levels all normal), electro cardio gram (shows repeated PVCs), echo cardio gram (ultrasound shows PVCs but nothing damaged, or abnormal, also blood flowing correctly), drug-induced stress test with lexiscan (normal, in fact, I was able to relax and cause the heart rate to decrease), chest x-rays, heart monitor, overnight stay in telemetry unit at hospital (while it was very active)
- they gave me: Magnesium Sulfate, and tons of other meds... made no difference.
I was release with a clean bill of health... I'm healthy... Still having constant PVCs, still coughing. It started suddenly. This is not normal. The problem is, nobody knows what it is and that worries me more.
Stress does funny things... and yes... I have been very stressed out lately.

I would also like to know what the problem could be.
cough when changing positions at night-but not when I'm on my left side.
cough when cold air hits me.
sometimes I can feel my heart beat higher in my chest(just below my throat)
I have a lead feeling at times-not constant.
What could this be indicating? I don't have bronchitis.
meds I take: synthroid, metformin, glyburide, baby asa, B-12 sublingual.

I have had these same symptoms for about three months now. I don't know what to do and the doctor has no idea. I am so frustrated I could just cry! The chest pains are so painful and the flutter is so hard in my chest. I am so sick of coughing. Is there any help out there for these symptoms???

The same thing has been happening to me for the last 4 days. When to the DR today they did an EKG said it was fine. Here I am watching TV and they start, it scares me to death everytime. The Dr said that it's just probably panic attacks but this happens when I'm relaxing and gets worse at night. Last night they lasted for 4 hours. So far it been going on for 2 hours today.
I don't have medical insurance so going to a specialist is enough to make me have a panic attack.

I went for a non stress test on Monday. They hooked me up, laid me down, and started the ultrasound. The fluttering and coughing started and the technician said, "Oh good, we have this all on film, now the doctor can see what is happening". I ran on the treadmill, laid down again for the ultrasound and no more fluttering and palpitations. The next day, the cardiologist office called and said the doctor read your ultrasound and everything looks good!!! I just can't believe this!!! Now I am back to square one and don't know where to turn. These palpitations get so bad I can hardly talk. I just can't live like this!!! Does anyone have an answer????????

Went back to the cardiologist demanding an answer. He said they are PVC's and there is nothing you can do for them. I take a beta blocker at night to calm the palpitations down a bit.

I have read almost all of these posts. I am a 44 yr old male. I first noticed my palpitations about 6 years ago. Never paid much attention to them until about 3 years ago. I was drinking a lot of coffee and that was setting me off like a cannon. I of course stopped drinking coffee and they almost went away. I kept going to my doctor complaining that I was having a hard time catching my breath, after about a year of this I was diagnosed with hypothyroid. Now on synthroid I am much better with more energy. The downfall to this is that synthroid can cause palpitations. My heart palpitations seem to be consistent now as I am getting older and they happen towards the late afternoon mostly. I to like everyone else have seen a cardiologist and did the Holter Monitor, Stress Test, Blood Work, and Ultrasound and everything came back normal. The Dr said I was having ectopic heart beats that I had nothing to worry about. Everyone has them and they are harmless. The coughing is new for me and drives me crazy. I do agree that alcohol, coffee and sugar can set them off. I exercise and it almost seems to make them worse which is not what I would expect. After reading these posts I am going to try a few new things. Loose 20lbs and eat healthier cutting out as much sugar as possible to see if that will help alleviate symptoms. My Dr also commented that the benefits of taking a beta blocker are not worth the side effects in my particular case. I hope this helps someone. I felt as though I could relate to almost every post on this site. God bless everyone that reads this post. Declare your health in His name and seek peace in God.

Ditto (to the majority of posts). Same symptoms. Same tests. One stress test revealed that my heart does skip a beat in a regular pattern -- it's my normal & no worries. Another doctor told me "If you were overweight & feeling this, I'd be concerned -- you just don't have enough fat on you so your heart is virtually up against your breastbone & that's why you feel it & are aware of it."
