I just had this done THD 4 days ago. I have a great doctor, a specialist in colorectal surgery. He's been a around performing surgeries for over 36 years. My first advice is get a great doctor, not just a good doctor. Make sure you ask everything you can, a lot of homework before the first visit. He promised I would hate him for 4 days, I'm on day 4 and it has been excruciatingly painful. I have no idea what THD procedure people are referring to that doesn't hurt, it certainly is not my experience. I don't know where you are located, but look for a website for a colorectal surgery specialist center in your area. I am fortunate enough that I can go to whatever dr. I choose, so I always look for the best. If you are near a large university hospital, this might be a good place to start. I have had to take Percocet every 4 hours steady since I left the OR, and it's not enough at all for keeping me comfortable. Taking 3 different laxatives to keep things smooth. Amazingly the worse pain is not from a BM it's just from the surgery. I force myself to walk gently around the upstairs of my house and I rest a lot. I eat scrambled eggs, oatmeal (steel cut oats) juice, quinoa, jello, very small amounts of meat, chix, cooked veggies, rice and close to 3 liters of water per day in addition to some fruit juice. Good luck, hope you get this in time

DrD if a general surgeon has only performed THD 3 times and has been a surgeon for twenty years should I be concerned???? Should I be focused more on a Surgeon with at least 20 THD procedures under his belt?
Advice please????

Hello. Thank you so much for your clear and encouraging information. I understand that the technique seems to 'lift' the prolapsing anal lining to its natural place instead of cutting away any thing. That drives me to ask you a question a bit embarrassing for me, but anonymity is a help here. I am homosexual. My question is how good will be THD respect to traditional surgery for anal sex?. Thanks again for your help. Hope my question does not disturb you.

Hi, Just had it done, no real pain yet. I'm a bit concerned about going on a course of antibiotics. Is it really necessary?

Hi there, I wonder if you could advise me - I had THD on the 3 July which included pushing back 2 prolapsed hemorrhoids. I did have some side effects including urinary infection and a had a catheter fitted. This problem has been resolved. However I am still getting pain from my anus and at times it is quite excruciating. I'm not sure if this is normal or not as having read other case studies the longest somebody had suffered pain was 17 days? Is this normal?

I have grade 3 hemorrhoids and had a THD procedure done on 21/11/2014 in London but the one large hemorrhoid prolapsed again 9 days after the operation. Though its not as bad as before. I visited the hospital to get it checked and the doctor told me that I might need a regular hemorrhoidectomy. I am reluctant to go for it as it changes the natural anatomy.
I would like to know, is it possible to get the THD / HAL-RAR procedure done again to correct the condition? Any doctors / patients with experience please advise.

My experience with THD was not at all like his. I had EXTREME rectal pain and swelling with difficult bowel movements during the 2 weeks post procedure. I still have a lot of pain during BMs 22 days after my procedure.

Hello! Not sure if you still check this page but I am in exactly the same place you were in. So frustrating. I am an athlete who trains regularly, eats well and am currently being limited by internal hemmroids almost to the point of depression. I have had CHR banding which held somewhat..but only temporarily. I am ready..scared but ready.
How do I find a Surgeon who does this? I live in Connecticut. Thank you for your help!

The sitz bath helped a lot. I used this 5 times a day. The warm water relaxes and soothe your anus and bottom. Don't feel bad if you end up urinating or BM into the sitz bath. Just clean well afterwards.
It's now going on week 4 and feel much better. First week was painful but I could still walk and function. Had the constant urge to defecate the first week.
You have to remember that the stitches cause a big inflammation and that can press on the prostate for the men. So, the voluntary ability to squeeze is gone for the first 1.5 weeks.
Now, my anus is looking more like a new born baby's. The cauliflower form I had before THD is gone. I can again wear briefs because the hemlines are no longer there to cause smears after BM and wipe.
I still take Metamucil pills twice a day. I have BM once a day. The first week, I sometimes had BMs 5-10 times a day. But these episodes go away as healing progress.
I also recommend prophylactic antibiotic dose. I had an infection somewhere and was sleeping all day and night the second week with fever of 101. Antibiotics cured this.
Overall, would I do it again? YES! THD is an awesome breakthrough for hemmies.
Remmember, recurrence even after THD is about 36%, so it's not perfect. But for me, it's been a cure to my internal and external hemmies.
