Having a family history of heart disease does increase your chances of having the same disease. However, a healthy lifestyle can improve your chances of not having heart disease. Don't smoke, drink alcohol, or use drugs. Go on a healthy diet - no sugary foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, and lean cuts of meat. Exercise regularly, and have your cholesterol and blood pressure checked from time to time.
