hiccups after cortisone shots

EVERY time I have a cortisone shot I get uncontrollable hiccups within a few hours. Sometimes it lasts for several days.
I've tried all the usual cures, sugar on tongue, drinking water, holding air, breathing in a bag. NOTHING works. Any suggestions.
I got a shot in the shoulder yesterday at 2PM, by 5 PM they started, and today they are worse.
ANY SUGGESTIONS to stop this side effect???? :?

I've been hiccuping all day after a cortisone shot yesterday 1/10/17 and nothing worked until I did the qtip upnyhe nose. Thanks for posting I feel a lot better. QTIP WORKS!!!!!!!
I got a hip cortisone shot for arthritis and the hiccups started a couple of hours after the shot and lasted through most of the night. They were back the next morning and began increasing in frequency until I was hiccuping every 5 seconds, and up to 5 short hiccups per bout, like firecrackers. I think panic was starting to set in and feeding the hiccups.
Glad I found this thread, and what worked for me was swallowing a teaspoon of lemon juice and dissolving a teaspoon of sugar on my tongue then swallowing. 5 minutes later the hiccups stopped and
didn't return so in the night. It's been 11 hours and counting, no hiccups.
Husband had cortisone shot Friday. It's Sunday night and he has had hiccups since a few hours after his shot! He's tried everything but the qtips! Hope it helps!
My husband received a cortisone shot yesterday and, like the time before, developed violent hiccups. He tried the Q-tips in the nostrils, which made him sneeze, and the hiccups stopped.
WIggling the Q- tip as far into the nose as possible five or six times has, after the sneezing subsided, brought hiccup-free relief. Thanks to the guest who shared this Q-tip Tip!
same problem here. get two shots yesterday. hiccups cannot be stopped starting today. Tried many different ways, not working. So annoying! Finally I found eating a few bites of banana immediately stopped my hiccups every time! Wish this works for other people.
I also had a cortisone shot in my wrist today and got the hiccups at least 4 times this evening. After researching and finding this "remedy" (q-tips up the nose), I no longer have the hiccups, for now :-) I didn't have to do a thing... I laughed so hard I cried and it took me a good 5 minutes to finally read it all, lol!! Thanks for your input :-)
Same here.... to the T! Nothing works for long. It's the steroids The rhythm of your diaphragm is thrown off, trying deep controlled breathing and sipping water.
I just got my first shot and I've had 6 short bouts in 2 days.
Put just a little water in a glass. Put a napkin over the glass. While standing, bend over and put your mouth on the opposite side of the glass to drink. Your top lip will be outside of the glass and your bottom lip will be on the inside. Keep bending over till you can get just a tiny sip. Stay bent over and swallow. Repeat 2-3 times. Magic every time for me and everyone I've shown! If you don't have a napkin, you can do it, just be careful. I think this scrunches up your diaphragm while you're swallowing and stops the spasms.
Hot tub helps so maybe hot bath for those without hot tub....
I know this is an old post but I went to the E.R. one night after having the hiccups for a week, first the doctor laid into me about it because of how serious it is I was kept over night and then sent home with 4 Thorazine pills. That medicine is the devil! It stops the hiccups but erases your memory and has you doing the Thorazine suffle! Never again!!!
Vinegar!!! It works instantly.
My god I was so desperate
Sure did, my doctor said he never heard of that side effect. Happens every time to me
