Hi, I cope with hives as a symptom of idiopatic dermatitis. I was prescribed with Doxepin, 60 mg a day. Now, my doctor wants to decrease dose and said even that I wouldn’t have to use corticosteroids in some time. Is it true?

Hi, I used to take prednisone to suppress hives, but after I switched to doxepin and I find it much better. There are less side effects compared to corticosteroids. It is an antidepressant but it doesn't imply that a patient taking it is being treated for depression. The doses of 10 -60mg are taken for hives. Depression and anxiety treatment requires much higher doses. I suppose that you will need some time to adjust the right dosage for your condition, but latter you will find the right amount to do the job with less possible side effects. Continued usage of makes corticosteroids to become "scare-oids".
