Hey there,
Hashimoto’s thyroid is a type of autoimmune thyroid disease, which is also hereditary (that means if that disease was already in your family, there is a grater chance for you to get one). With Hashimoto’s thyroids immune system attacks and destroys the thyroid gland, which consequently means that it prevents the gland from producing enough thyroid hormones. That means body cannot “work correctly”. Symptoms of Hashimoto’s are enlarged thyroid gland, fatigue, depression, weigh gain, muscle weakness, dry and brittle hair, even hair loss, sensitivity to cold, constipation, muscle cramps, increased menstrual flow. But some patients do not have any symptoms at all. You cannot know, I mean determine yourself whether you have a disease or not, doctors must make a test (measure blood TSH). Hashimoto’s thyroids can usually be treated with medications (thyroif hormone replacement) and in most cases this replacement should be used till the rest of patient’s life.
Best regards!
