I know I am over a year late but don't cut your pills please. It's dangerous. Try approach doc and ask for smaller quantity pills

I know this won't help, but maybe someone can help me figure it out. I have been an off again on again addict since my wife died in 2007. For the longest time the worst thing I ever took or could get my hands on were Vicodin and Percocet. I took them for years and years on and off but never knew what "withdrawals" actually meant cause I never had them......till I got introduced to opana 40mg's. After that, everything changed, obviously lol. After years of battling that horrible monster I decided never to touch it again. That was 2014. Since then I have gotten the occasional loritab here and there (maybe twice a month). Until a couple months ago when I got into a bad boating accident. Once released from the hospital I was receiving 100mg morphines due to the severity of my injury and the lack of wanting anything else or stronger for fear of relapse. Now to my point, I only had enough for 1 per day for three weeks under the instruction to take a half twice a day. After that go back for something weaker and blah blah blah. Well, 2 weeks ago I ran out, and not only did I not have a single withdrawal symptom, but I could completely manage the pain with nothing more then bed rest and Ibuprofen. So my question is, since I have already detoxed from the worst of the worst, is it possible that it now takes a hell of a lot of more for me to become dependent? Just curious really. Sorry if it sounds smug or like I'm bragging, but I really am just seeking an answer. For the rest of you who are having to deal with the horrible situation known as detox and withdrawal. My best wishes go with you. I truelly hope you the best of luck with this nasty ordeal. It's a terrible thing for anyone to ever have to experience. I would wish it on no one. But just remember, no matter how bad things seem, I promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My wife died and we had a daughter. I was in the army over seas at the time. Got brought home, put out over a year later on a family care discharge, only to loose my daughter in court to my late wife's rich family and never able to see her. So again my friends, eventually, the sun always comes back out to shine. Just hang in there.

I share some of your exasperation at those who have abused what is a very useful drug for removing enough pain to still be active participants in life. However, I would caution against such a Black/White view. I have been slowly tapering off my MS Contin dependence. I experience the same physical withdrawal symptoms as someone who has been abusing the drugs. The difference is I don't have a psychological urge to use. I would caution against telling another person about their disease. We are not they, every disease is as diverse as the person who experiences it. Doctors can at times oversimplify or misdiagnose problems so if a patient says "X" based on what he has been told, I would not blame the patient. There can be a lot of misinformation out there...like the MS Contin pills themselves. Mine are time released based on some goop they put into the tablet. Breaking them into pieces does nothing to defeat this mechanism.

Fair play to you for getting yourself clean of everything. I've recently come off oxycontin which was horrible and I'm now in the process of coming off oxynorm which is worse this time. I sometimes wish I could feel the pain again just to feel alive instead of feeling like a zombie. I hope you stay strong now after all that has happened to you. The future is what you make of it so I hope you make the best one you possibly can

Yes. You are absolutely right in your post.
I have had to use M-Eslon 30mgs twice daily for TWENTY YEARS for chronic pain.
I am NEVER HIGH and it DECREASES my pain but never totally. It allows me a much better lifestyle. My GP, various specialists, physiotherapy, acupuncture, TNS machine, biofeedback, counselling, pain management programs, and a myriad of analgesics, muscle relaxers, anti inflammatory, anti-spasmodics, massage therapy... you name it, I tried it. Finally I was. Prescribed the M-Eslon 30mg twice daily and I got part of my life back.
Yes. My body is dependent on it, and I know if I was able to tolerate something else that could give me the same relief... including doing a bloody chicken dance, that I would. Having said that, I have gotten over the STIGMA and the reaction when you tell someone what you use for pain management because quite frankly, I don't give a rat's ass anymore. This medication works; and you're right, if someone is getting "high" then they are using too much.

oh my God! you are the first smart person on here!!!!! I take 30 mg morphine every 12 hours. Every doctor said I'd have to be on medication for the rest of my life. I am not an addict, I'm (dependent) on this medication! I now have a question, my whole bottle is missing, I get very forgetful sometimes when I take it. I am so sick, ETC. It's been 4 days since I took one. How long will the with drawls last? Sorry for any typos, things are blurry

I have a tried and true way to ease almost every withdrawal symptom. I take morphine for intense pain. Once I ran out of them and was in such agony I did the only thing I could think to do...
Take the imodiom, drink fluids, get something for nausea, but the biggest and most effective thing I did was have someone bring me a whipped cream dispenser and nitrous oxide. It's what you get at the dentist. it can be found in “head” shops and adult stores.
I was went 4 days cut off from my meds, and because of the nitrous (whippits), my only symptom a good deal of lethargy.

Wow. I feel so terrible for you. I looked this up because I am changing pain clinics, and I ran out of my 60mg per day morphine. The withdrawals were bad. But after reading your story, I feel you are a very courageous person and you will make it. God bless you.
