I started to have hot flashed occasionally for 4 years before my periods stopped. They were some of my earliest menopause symptoms along with heart palpitations, sudden tears and sudden rage. Insomnia came much later, as increased wakefulness. Hot flushes still last, lighter than before, but still present. How often do hot flushes come?

Hot flushes are the most unpredictable aspect of menopause. They start with an unexpected feeling of warmth or heat as if your body is being dipped in wax, head first. Along with the sensation of heat, I begin to sweat. My doctor says that it may last for a year or less, while others goes on for as long as 15 years before they stop. Who is going to handle that long?
