I was a devoted runner. However I was prevented from running for quite some time. Now after a long absence I’m back to running. I am not sure how to start. I am certainly not in a good form. Should I start aggressively and try to get back in form as soon as possible and thus make up for the lost time?

The answer is no. One thing you should definitely not do is start running at top speed or long distances. Take it slowly. You have to give yourself enough time. If you start aggressively you will end up exhausted with sore muscles. Don’t worry about the lost time. Getting back in form takes much, much less time than improving your form for the first time. Conquering the new territory is always the hardest. Getting there after a break is much easier.

I used to run in high school. I am 35 now. I have been off and on for a couple years now. I am finally in a groove and actually feel good about my running.

There are techniques in running that I had completely forgotten that I used to do. The different training techniques definitely help, but you still have to start slow again even though you may want to go fast.

If you don't hold yourself back and take your time, you will burn yourself out quickly and possibly worse, get injured.
